Position Statement
A successful OR RN is one who is meticulous and detailed oriented. One should be caring, compassionate and have knowledge of the aspects of surgical procedures. The RN should have a broad knowledge of all age populations, recognizing normal and abnormal presentation of the patient. The Surgical RN will adhere to the AORN standards of care and recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and coordinate the care of a patient undergoing a surgical procedure.* Obtain the necessary supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure, assisting in setting up and maintaining the sterile field* Administers medication under the direction of healthcare providers.* Communicates and educates patients and their families, explaining procedures, being a patient advocate, and providing emotional support.* Documents patient information and maintaines accurate medical records.* Operates and monitors medical equipment.* Identifies complications and emergencies and responds swiftly.* Incorporates Evidence-Based best practice into the daily setting through holistic, quality based with the most up to date research and knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.* Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.* Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.* Proficient in RN moderate sedation responsibilities.* Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.* Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.* Commitment to patient-centered care and a positive birthing experience.* All successful employees of North Country Hospital follow and adhere to all policies and standards of behavior.* Certifications:* Certification In Operating Room (CNOR) - optional but preferred.* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within first year of hire* Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) within second year of hire
