EMG Technician

Position Summary:
The Electromyography Tech (EMGT) will operate electromyography (EMG) equipment used in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disease and denervation to test the electrical activity of muscles. The EMGT will test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and will assist physicians in performing additional more advanced EMG techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases. Prior to the procedure the EMGT will explain the procedure to the patient and will apply electrodes to the proper position on the body. The EMGT will obtain information concerning patient's medical history in order to determine, with the physician, proper procedures for test modality. During the procedure the EMGT will observe patient and report any changes to the physician. The EMGT will compute and record graphic data, analyze and calculate results, and report findings. Additionally, the EMGT will be responsible to calibrate equipment and clean assigned work area, while managing the work area on a daily basis.
Qualifications
Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.Two Year College program in Neurodiagnostic Technology or an equivalent Associates degree in Health Sciences or related field preferred.Completed course in Medical Technology preferred.
Experience:Two years direct patient care experience required.Two years previous EMG experience required.Previous Electronic Health Record experience preferred.Previous clerical experience in a hospital setting preferred.Previous management experience
Licensure/Certification/Registration:Certified by the American Association of Electromyography Technicians or eligibility for Certification preferred.
Special Skills:Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, and department heads required.Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.Strong organizational skills required.Strong PC skills required.Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
