Orthopaedic Surgical Associates (OSA) has an excellent opportunity for a Physician Assistant to join its dynamic team in North Chelmsford and Westford, MA. The PA will work support a busy orthopedic spine surgeon in the OR and clinic. This well-regarded practice provides a highly collegial and supportive work environment.
OSA is a premier orthopaedic surgery practice which provides caring and skilled medical care to patients living in the Merrimack Valley, southern New Hampshire, and towns northwest of Boston. The practice was founded in Lowell in 1987 and has grown to include twelve physicians. The surgeons at OSA have sub-specialty orthopaedic training by the top educational programs in the nation and all doctors are board-certified. The practice encompasses the entire range of orthopaedic conditions in both pediatric and adult patients. OSA includes the Merrimack Valley Spine Center, a preeminent site for the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal disorders.
Responsibilities:
* Performs complete physical exams, obtains complete medical history and records findings* Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan* Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients* Performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing* Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits* Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines* Instructs patients/families regarding medications and treatments* Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention, surgical procedures and expectations in perioperative period* Actively supports patient safety program; adheres to applicable patient safety standards including NQF Safe Practices* Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation as necessary* Conducts post-operative evaluations* Minimal hospital rounding / call responsibilities* Performs necessary administrative duties consistent with role including EMR and billing inputs* Identifies emergency situations and uses sound judgement in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner* Athenahealth EMR* Monday-Friday (8am-5pm)
