Senior Community Health Nurse

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County has a job opening for a Registered Nurse working with the Health Care for the Homeless Program. This position will provide clinical support at the Bayside Clinic including covering evening shifts until 8pm and Saturdays 8am - 12pm.

Your Specific Responsibilities:Assess and evaluate clients within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines, and Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County policies and the Nurse Practice Act.Utilize nursing skills of interview, observation, and assessment to determine the medical needs of the client.Use the nursing process to plan for ongoing assessment of risk factors and service as prioritized by the client being seen.Provide case management to established or referred clients in need of nursing intervention. Make appropriate referrals.Provide direct services to clients including immunization, administration of ordered medications, phlebotomy, and other testing or services which fall within the nursing practice.Take vital signs including temperature, B/P, pulse, respirations, height, and weight.Conduct pre-clinical interviews.Perform laboratory testing, including venipuncture, urine collection and finger sticks.Record and maintain laboratory records and results as required by Florida statute.Prepare specimens for transport to outside laboratory.Ensure a safe and healthy environment by adhering to OSHA guidelines for the prevention of exposure to blood borne pathogens, utilizing universal precautions.Record client data in computer utilizing NextGen and other required software timely and accurately.Maintain confidentiality of all records and client interactions and services according to HIPAA privacy policies.Provide clinical support to provider and team as requested.Maintain inventory of laboratory and clinic supplies as assigned.Initiate and complete incident reports as needed.Attend huddles and team and other meetings as assigned.Participate in quality improvement activities, including chart review, in service programs, and staff meetingsKeep supervisor informed.Complete timesheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.Schedule time off in advance and collaborate with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software.Ability to assess clients and make sound nursing judgments independently.Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices & techniques.Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing approved abbreviationsAbility to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EHR systemAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to safely administer medications and immunizations within scope of nursing licensure.Ability to work with persons of a different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status.Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station, or work hours for the benefit of the agency.Ability to learn and maintain proficiency of computer skills & new programs required by Clinical Health Services division.Skills in one-on-one interviewing.

Qualifications:

Minimum-Florida nursing license or multi-state licenseCurrent CPR certificationAbility to work a flexible schedule, including evenings until 8 PM and Saturdays 8 AM - 12 PM.

Preferred -3 or more years of experience working as an RN in a clinic settingExperience working with patients suffering from chronic diseases3 or more years of experience performing laboratory testingExperience working with an Electronic Health RecordExperience working with the homeless population
