What's the Role and What You'll Do

We're looking for a conscientious and experienced fire suppression professional to take on the role of Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic. You will join a cohesive, motivated, and positive team environment, providing emergency fire and medical response including Advanced Life Support (ALS), pre-hospital emergency care, and emergency medical assistance to victims of accidents, injuries, or illnesses within the Mountain View community. As a Firefighter, you will receive direction from a Fire Captain in the Suppression Division. What You'll Do

Provide Community Service, such as:

* Respond to emergency calls* Participate in control and extinguishment of fires* Mitigate effect of hazardous materials spills and fires* Perform live saving duties and emergency services* Provide public assistance and education.

The Essentials

* Presently employed as a full-time, sworn firefighter with one or more years of service in fire suppression (must be in good standing/off probation, no breaks in service)* Education equivalent to a high school diploma or GED* Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 Certificate or a Fire Academy Certificate of completion that meets the California State Fire Training curriculum for "Firefighter 1"* Possession of a valid state of California (or National) Paramedic License of EMT certification; and for Paramedics, ability to obtain accreditation as a Paramedic in Santa Clara County within 6 months of appointment* Possession of a valid California Driver License with ability to obtain a valid driver license approved by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to operate firefighting vehicles prior to completion of probation* Normal hearing and vision, or correctable to a normal level and ability to perform the essential functions for the position

Desirable Qualifications

* Certificates: Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator 1A; Rescue Systems 1, 2 and/or 3; Confined Space Rescue Technician; Rope and Rescue Technician; Hazardous Materials Technician and/or Specialist Certification; Trench Rescue; Structural Collapse; Heavy Vehicle Rescue* Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Russian* Military experience* Associate degree in Fire Technology or relevant major

Candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to the following process:

* Oral board interview (weighted 100%). Tentatively scheduled to take place the week of January 13, 2025.* Select candidates from the eligibility list may be invited to interview with the Fire Department command staff for a more in-depth discussion regarding the position. Tentatively scheduled to take place the week of January 27, 2025.

Depending on the number of applicants this process may be altered.
