Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

The Nevada National Security Site Fire & Rescue (F&R) Department is currently seeking resumes for the position of Lateral Firefighter / EMT.

This is a collective-bargaining agreement position assigned to one of three 56-hour shift platoons.

+

Qualified applicants may also be assigned as a Fire Extinguisher Technician for inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire extinguishers and SCBA (Self-contained breathing apparatus) until a position becomes available on the floor. This position is a 4/10 Monday - Thursday schedule.

Selected applicants will be required to appear in person for a written examination and, upon successful completion of the examination, participate in an oral review board (interview).

Larger than the state of Rhode Island, the 1,360-square-mile Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) is located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The contractor-operated site is overseen by the National Nuclear Security Administration's Nevada Field Office. NNSS F&R also deploys to emergencies adjacent to the NNSS to include U.S. Highway 95 and other areas within Nye and Clark Counties. Firefighter/EMT - Essential functions and duties:

+

Respond to structural, vehicle, wildland, aircraft fires, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire alarms, and medical emergencies under supervision to provide life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation.

+

Perform fire suppression activities to include connecting to fire hydrants, laying supply lines, deploying hose lines, and operating nozzles to control and extinguish fire.

+

Operate fire extinguishers based on the size and class of fire.

+

Carry, raise, and extend ladders for roof, rescue, suppression, or ventilation operations.

+

Use ropes, pike poles, axes, and other specialized tools and equipment.

+

Perform rescue, exposure protection, extinguishment, salvage and overhaul operations.

+

Perform Special Operations duties which may include hazardous materials, rope rescue, swift water, structural collapse, trench, vehicle, and confined space rescue.

+

Use EMS equipment and administer emergency medical treatment to sick or injured patients.

+

Drive ambulances to transport sick or injured persons to medical care facilities and assist Paramedics with patient treatment.

+

Perform building and area familiarization utilizing pre-incident plans.

+

Inspect and maintain fire and rescue apparatus, tools, equipment, and assist in general housekeeping of the fire station quarters and grounds.

+

Respond, contain, and extinguish wildland fires.

+

Participate in fire department training programs.

+

Maintain required skill levels in fire suppression, rescue operations, special operations, wildland firefighting, and EMS.

+

Prepare and maintain various department records and reports.

If assigned as a Fire Extinguisher Technician, you will be required to perform the additional duties:

+

Extinguisher maintenance operations and fire extinguisher inspections.

+

Maintenance of assigned apparatus and equipment under supervision.

+

Maintain records.

+

Perform hydrostatic testing of cylinders.

+

Recover/recycle and recharge clean, dry, and wet type extinguishing agents.

Qualifications

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

+

Minimum 2 years' experience as a paid, reserve, wildland, or volunteer firefighter with documented proof of service within the previous 3 years prior to testing.

+

Firefighter II (IFSAC or ProBoard).

+

Emergency Medical Technician Basic (State of Nevada or NREMT).

+

Current certification in American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider.

+

Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) valid within six months of testing.

+

Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700 and 800.

+

Preferred Qualifications:

+

Hazardous Materials Technician (NFPA)

+

National Wildfire Coordinating Group S-130, L-180, and S-190

+

Work schedule for this position will be either a 56-hour shift or 4/10's, Monday - Thursday (subject to change) as identified above.

This is a collective-bargaining agreement position. Candidate must become and maintain good standing with Teamsters, Local 631.

+

The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).

+

Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

+

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, 'Identity, Credential, and Access Management,' and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, 'Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.'

Annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00 - $84,000.00

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
