JOB SUMMARY

To assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and extricate trapped individuals. Transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities. The Paramedic performs various patient care activities in the pre-hospital and emergency setting, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the State of Tennessee.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Director of EMS and/or Shift Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education

High School or GED Equivalent

Must have completed A-EMT/Paramedic course as required by State of Tennessee

Work Experience

Some paramedic work experience preferred. Must have paramedic internship experience.

License/Certification

Current Tennessee Paramedic Licensure

Maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS),

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Administers first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings.* Operates equipment, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators, in advanced life support environments.* Performs emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as stomach suction, airway management, or heart monitoring, during ambulance ride.* Observes, records, and reports to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment.* Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.* Treats medical emergencies.* Implements advanced life support techniques.* Operates diagnostic or therapeutic medical instruments or equipment.* Informs medical professionals regarding patient conditions and care.* Monitors patient progress or responses to treatments.* Operates the EMS communication equipment in professional manner using proper protocols and procedures and records all pertinent information obtained from EMS dispatch.* Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations.

ePCR Requirements

* Performs pre-hospital A-EMT duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations and under the direction of the departmental medical director.* Performs daily vehicle maintenance check and cleans both inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis.* Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients.* Maintains patient confidentiality.

OTHER DUTIES

* Performs similar, less skilled tasks, including assisting with clerical duties within the department.* Demonstrates flexibility as patient care needs change.* Works in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.* Completes time keeping payroll records, as defined by EMS policy and procedure

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Must pass a physical examination and physical agility test.* Physical demands include lifting, climbing, pushing, reading, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.* Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and exert 20-50 pounds of pressure during a scheduled work shift.* OSHA Category I tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.* Will work outside in inclement weather.* Physically capable of performing all A-EMT/Paramedic services with reasonable accommodation.* Prolonged periods of standing and walking* Must be able to see with corrective eye wear* Must be able to hear clearly with assistance* May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases* Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations* May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary* Transferring, repositioning patients.* Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.* Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
