The Vaccine Management Nurse, reporting to the Primary Care Nurse Manager, plays a critical role within the patient care team at Codman Health Square Health Center. The VMN spends roughly 50% of their time overseeing the vaccine program.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is committed to excellent patient care, serves as a conduit to community wellness and is in constant pursuit of organizational excellence. The practice of the RN encompasses organized and systematic methodologies to assist the patients in promoting wellness, preventing illness, and managing acute and chronic disease to affect the most attainable positive health status, over their life span. The RN would spend the other roughly 50% of their time providing direct patient nursing care.

This position is responsible for delivering consistent, high-quality, evidence-based care while adhering to the standards set by the American Nurses Association, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and the health centers' policies and procedures.

Qualifications

The Vaccine Management Nurse (VMN) primary responsibility is to provide oversight of the health center's vaccine program. To ensure the appropriate vaccines are safely administered to patients and employees according to state and federal guidelines. S/he will track orders, usage, and expiration of vaccines. The Nurse will follow the storage and handling of vaccines per the guidelines of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Vaccine Management. S/he will oversee the vaccine staff to ensure quality patient care and provide clinical nursing support.

The VMN oversees all aspects of vaccines and vaccination at Codman Square Health Center.

These include but are not limited to:

* Manage the EPIC Vaccine Lot Manager, vaccine supply and programs in all departments at Codman Square Health Center including VFC, Influenza, COVID-19 and non-VFC vaccine supply.* Order vaccines through manufacturers with the assistance of the Procurement Specialist.* Oversee proper receipt and storage of all vaccine deliveries.* Perform a physical inventory of all vaccines and processes and documents all vaccine inventory information weekly and as needed.* Oversee temperature logging for all vaccine storage units and addresses temperature issues promptly.* Maintain documentation for vaccines (inventory, temperature logs, etc.) as necessary.* Maintain Vaccine Management Handbooks* Organize vaccine-related training and ensures staff completion of training and competency in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Educator.* Ensure all staff are trained on routine and emergency vaccine management procedures.* Review and update the Vaccine Management Plan as needed.* Conduct audits to ensure proper policy and procedure is followed for vaccine mixing/drawing, administration, and storage.* Facilitate and support annual employees and patient flu clinics* Enter staff vaccine administration data into MIIS.* Facilitate, implement, and evaluate vaccine initiatives.

The Vaccine Management Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and coordination of care for patients and their families within the health center. And may perform a variety of direct and indirect nursing care activities.

These include but are not limited to:

* Review and communicate test results per protocol (ex. Critical labs and abnormal imaging)* Accurate, complete and timely documentation in the electronic health record* Perform patient triage* Provide patient education* Administer medication, immunizations and treatments as ordered* Assist with triaging urgent and emergent patient care situations* Manages communication from internal and external sources* Attends nursing and organizational staff meetings* Provides safe, ethical, evidence based and culturally competent care* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program. BSN strongly preferred.* Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.* Excellent customer services.* Strong organizational and time-management skills.* Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes.* Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.* Strong team player and collaborative communicator.* Role includes evenings and weekends.
