Position Summary:
The Performance Improvement Registered Nurse assists the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager in coordinating performance improvement reviews, which encompasses all areas and disciplines of the hospital that participate in the care of trauma patients. Provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement data collection, analysis, trending and benchmarking of data and outcomes. Participates in Trauma Registry data collection and analysis. Collaborates closely with Trauma Program leadership to assure compliance with the Florida Trauma Registry Guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists the Trauma Program Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of a quality plan which is multidisciplinary and patient outcome focused. Enters all Performance Improvement issues into registry and assures that all issues are addressed and loop closed within a timely fashion. Notifies the Trauma Program Manager with Performance Improvement issues that cannot be closed. Reports to the Trauma Program Manager any identified quality issues throughout the trauma program. Monitors sentinel events, deaths, transfers, complications, hospital length of stay, adherence to protocols, and variances. Assists with preparing Trauma Quality Meetings monthly, Trauma Registry meeting bi-monthly and other meetings as needed. Participates in registry validation activities by reviewing charts monthly and reports findings to Lead Registrar and Trauma Program Manager. Assists in the preparation for the Florida Trauma Site Survey. Directs and assists with the Trauma Program Manager's duties in absence or during scheduled time off/vacations. Assists with the coordination of educational and outreach opportunities sponsored by the trauma center. Assesses the needs for policies, procedures, protocols, supplies and equipment relating to the care of trauma patients in coordination with the trauma team. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education:
Bachelor's degree is required.

Unit Specific Competencies:
Must have clinical knowledge, skill and ability to fully and accurately complete all required unit competencies, as indicated in the unit competency check-list.
License Certification:
Valid Florida RN license is required. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.
