For more than 40 years, Codman Square Health Center has been improving the health of people from Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, Brockton, Randolph, and surrounding Boston area communities. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Codman is a national health care safety net site that has been recognized for high quality care. For the last 20 years, Codman has trained future generations' physicians and nurses and are excited to continue our new Nurse Practitioner Residency, which was launched in July of 2020. Codman has partnered with the University of Massachusetts Worcester Graduate School of Nursing to create a cutting-edge program and a robust residency. This is a twelve-month post-graduate residency and is followed by an additional twelve months of service at Codman. This is a unique opportunity to solidify skills in a full-time Nurse Practitioner position.
Every patient an NP Resident cares for during the first twelve months will be precepted by an experienced attending provider. Residents will have primary care continuity sessions, Internship Sessions, and Specialty Sessions. These will vary year to year to accommodate resident interest and skill as well as Codman Resources and availability. Additionally, the resident will learn through didactics, quality improvement projects, and evaluations. Residents show expedited clinical growth, improved confidence, and increased preparedness by the end of the program. This 12-month full-time residency provides new FNP graduates with the foundation to build their career as a primary care provider in community health. The residents will remain Codman employees throughout the entire twenty-four months and may have to opportunity the hired as staff Nurse Practitioners after the program. Throughout the twenty fourth month program, Residents will be employed as full time staff at Codman with full benefits.
For the 2024-2025 Academic Year, Codman will be accepting direct applicants only. This application is similar to our sister sites (Baystate, FHCW, EMK, CHP), but is unique to Codman. Please be detailed in your responses.
The Post-Graduate Nurse Practitioner Residency in Family Practice and Community Health will:
* Prepare Family Nurse Practitioners to become comprehensive Primary Care Providers for complex underserved populations across the life span.* Build upon the clinical knowledge acquired during formal education by providing clinical and professional support for Nurse Practitioners in an active learning environment.* Expand the number of Nurse Practitioners interested in building a life-long career in community health.* Prepare Nurse Practitioners for careers in organizations that provide care to underserved patient populations.

Exact dates are being determined, but are likely to be on Tuesdays and hybrid of zoom and in person. Please check back on our website. Requirements/Things to Know:
* Applicants must agree to a full-time, 12-month residency.* Applicants must commit to a second year of full-time employment at Codman Square Health Center.* Applicants must be a citizen of the US or a foreign national with a visa permitting permanent residency in the US or a non-citizen national. Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible.* All applicants are required to be completely credentialed and privileged prior to starting clinical sessions. Please note, this can be a lengthy process. All efforts will be made to help you expedite it. You are required to do the same. This involves sitting for you boards in April, as soon as you complete required clinicals and prior to graduation. Additionally, we require a 24 hour turnaround time on all requests from our credentialing department.
