What is Lifebanc?

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description:

This position is responsible for ensuring that all donors and potential donor families are offered the opportunity for tissue and eye donation. The Family Support Coordinator serves as a resource and support mechanism for the facilitation of tissue and eye donation process by supporting potential donor families and serving as an advocate for potential tissue and eye recipients as required by regulatory standards.

Essential Functions:

Identifies and evaluates all referrals for potential organ, tissue and eye donation as required by various standards.Collects and interprets patient medical and social history information provided by hospital/nursing home staff, coroners or investigators.Triages organ, tissue and eye donor referral calls, contacting the appropriate Lifebanc staff member when needed.Accurately completes all required referral documentation in iTransplant.Determines initial suitability based upon processors criteria and requests a copy of the chart if initially suitable for donation.Ability to access and navigate through multiple hospital systems electronic medical records.

Serves as a member of the health care team and provides support for end-of-life decisions regarding tissue and eye donation.Identifies and contacts appropriate next of kin of potential tissue and eye donors.Discusses the opportunity of tissue and eye donation with next of kin and obtains authorization/disclosure for tissue and eye donation.Provides details of eligible tissues, recovery process and benefits of donation to the donor family.Provides informed authorization or disclosure to donor families and meets the required elements of informed authorization.Supports next of kin with requested follow up such as acceptance/deferral outcome and/or post recovery notification.

Maintains an individual authorization rate that meets the department's benchmarks.Attends and actively participates in mandatory quarterly consent trainings.Consistently monitors monthly authorization rates.

Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical and social history interview from the next of kin, significant other and/or health care professional of potential tissue and eye donors and facilitates the recovery process in compliance with regulatory standards and Lifebanc policies.Accurately completes the appropriate electronic Donor Risk Assessment Interview in iTransplant.Asks the interviewee each question in its entirety and thoroughly documents their answer and clarifies those questions answered yes.Able to determine if the interviewee knows the patient well enough to answer the questions and recognizes when they are speaking with a poor historian.If necessary, communicates with the Funeral Home throughout the process.Works alongside the Tissue Administrator on Call to determine which tissue processors will be involved based on the patient's medical history and age.

Ensures departmental quality guidelines are maintained by timely clearance of donor charts to maximize opportunities for transplantation and provides essential customer service both within Lifebanc and outside the organization.Responds to audit findings and processor requests in a timely manner.Accurate, timely completion of charting error tasks assigned in iTransplant and responds to all other inquiries from the Quality Department required for donor chart clearance.Competent in initiating and responding to an occurrence.Delivers customer service with the highest level of excellence to all individuals within and outside of Lifebanc during routine and stressful situations.

The Family Support Coordinator can serve as a back-up for the Triage Coordinator position. Performs other job duties, as assigned.

The hours for the day shift are 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and night shift is 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Each shift covers twelve and a half hours and includes two (2) weekend shifts, and four (4) weekday shifts in a two-week period.

This is a fully remote position. Must live within the state of Ohio.

Qualifications:High School diploma required.Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in the clinical health care field such as LPN, Paramedic or Clinical Health Technician or related experience in tissue banking.Minimum of 18 months of experience in a Family Support role within the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) industry is required.CTBS certification preferred but not required.Strong interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel and donor families.Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative, and make responsible decisions under stressful conditions.Proficient use of computers, email, and navigation of applications simultaneously.Ability to conduct multiple tasks at one time.Exhibit a high level of empathy for a positive outcome.
