JOB SUMMARYWorks under general supervision to provide support, treatment, measurement, and/or supplementation of patient's cardiopulmonary and circulatory function.

EducationBachelor's Degree In an allied health field, perfusion, or related scientific field andGraduate of an accredited Perfusion program. No prior experience is required.Licenses and CertificationsMust be American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified Upon Hire orbe eligible for American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification Upon Hire andMust have Perfusion licensure by Texas Medical Board OR meet requirements to obtain licensure. Upon Hire and(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Through course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) Upon Hire and(ACLS) ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT Through course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) Upon HireJOB DUTIES
Consult with physician on selection of equipment and techniques to be used during procedures.Set up heart-lung machine for surgeons; operates bypass equipment.Prepare life support system as dictated by cardiac surgery staff.Conduct bypasses for heart surgeries and liver transplants.Maintain equipment; performs routine functionality checks of equipment.Research special topics and unusual cases to provide current and effective treatment.Maintain adequate inventory of supplies.Assist with laboratory research projects.Give in-services for students and residents.Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via extracorporeal circuits.Perform other duties as assigned.SECURITY AND EEO STATEMENTSecurityThis position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
