Responsibilities
* * Accept referrals of pregnant and breastfeeding clients for follow-up * Contact women at critical intervals during pregnancy, frequently during early days of breastfeeding, and monthly as long as baby is breastfeeding * Be available to mothers beyond usual WIC clinic hours * Document all contacts with mothers on the peer counselor contact record and keep peer counselor weekly activity report up to date * Peer Counselors are not to diagnose or treat medical problems associated with breastfeeding, but will refer the client to the breastfeeding coordinator or the CPA's * In the absence of the Breastfeeding Coordinator of the sites, the Peer Counselor will be supervised by the local agency coordinator or the Senior CPA at that site * Must always have contact logs up to date and be prepared to have worked spot checked by the breastfeeding Coordinator at any time * Actively promote the peer counselor program with WIC participants * Be enthusiastic about breastfeeding and helping other others enjoy a positive experience * Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the participant information such as name, address, phone numbers, etc. * Peer Counselors are not to do clerical work for the WIC staff but will provide support for special breastfeeding projects such as community events or other local agency projects pertaining to breastfeeding
