Interventionist - Hiddenite Elementary School

Temporary Part-time (20 hrs/week) for the 2024-2025 school year

General Statement of Job

Under general supervision, the employee is responsible for supporting student achievement in literacy and math, with special attention to Tier II and Tier III instruction. An Interventionist performs various tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of individual and/or small-group research-based reading interventions. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance and may provide support or professional development in literacy instruction for classroom teachers and instructional assistants.

Required education and experience

* Master's degree in Reading Education and licensed by the state of North Carolina in the required area(s), preferred.* Bachelor's degree with experience in reading and/or literacy instruction and math instruction.* A proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher with 3-5 years of experience with various elementary grade levels is preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities

* Assesses and evaluates individual students' literacy and math needs to determine the level of need.* Collaborates and communicates with teachers, administrators, and families to help identify best practices, strategies, and activities to enhance the reading skills of individual and small groups of students.* Develops and uses lesson plans and instructional materials for subject areas and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction.* Evaluate the academic and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.* Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and promote effective participation in all activities.* Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, as well as student learning.* Treats all students fairly and equitably. Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.* Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.* Communicates effectively with parents through various means and encourages parental involvement in students' education.* Meets and plans regularly with school administrators, instructional coaches, other interventionists, and teachers to monitor and support literacy implementation.* Provides high-quality instruction to small groups of students.* Uses data to provide research-based interventions and instruction to students.* Maintains data-based documentation for continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.* Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems.

Additional duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators designated by the superintendent.

Essential knowledge and abilities

* Masterful knowledge of literacy and math curriculum and instruction.* Ability to develop and maintain trust, positive rapport, and effective working relationships with students, families, and staff.* Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, both oral and written.* Strong instructional skills, resulting in student growth.* Good technical skills with technology/equipment, computer applications/programs, and presentation tools.* Ability to collect, analyze, and maintain accurate records and statistical data and to develop meaningful reports from that information.* Expertise in planning and evaluating strategies for improving literacy instruction.* Ability to motivate students and monitor their safety and well-being.* Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules.* Must be physically able to operate various equipment, including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.* Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
