Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse or physician, the Endoscopy Technician directly assists the Endoscopy Team with procedures, including assisting with transportation of patients and equipment.
The Endoscopy Technician sets up instruments for daily procedures, cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes equipment and may assist physicians, nursing staff and patients during endoscopic procedures and caring for endoscopic equipment post procedure.
Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Regional Health System (FRHS) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FRHS Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FRHS Standards of Behavior.
Example of Essential FunctionsPrepares for Endoscopy cases according to physician preferences.Initiates changes to Physician Preference Cards and Case Requisitions after collaboration and approval from the manager.Provides appropriate technical services for Endoscopy procedures, expected endoscopic case progression and potential intra-operative complications.Reports any changes in patient assessment data immediately to the registered nurse and physician before, during and after procedure.Transports patients having Endoscopy procedure to and from appropriate areas in the hospital for care.Establishes and maintains a sterile/aseptic field.Identifies and corrects any infractions of sterile/aseptic technique.Adheres to infection control standards.Prepares specimens obtained from procedures according to health system policies and procedures.Organizes and assembles the patient medical record as necessary.Enters patient information into the Endo video system.Assembles and uses equipment according to FRHS policies and procedures or manufacturer guidelines.Returns equipment to storage after procedures.Follows established procedure for malfunctioning equipment.Provides for the physician preparation of the Endoscopy Suite for patient care by cleaning, stocking and replacing supplies as needed.Conducts inventory and orders supplies as needed.Identifies possible adjustments to par levels based on usage.Checks dates supplies and remove out-of-date items from service.Performs scope processing according to established policies and procedures.Maintains the scope processing log.Takes call to provide technical support and scope processing during non-operational hours of the Endoscopy Service.Complies with quality control standards and participates in data collection for quality assessment and performance improvement activities.Actively engages in departmental efforts to promote retention of staff and provide for a high level of employee morale.Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of the basic policies and procedures for infection control, patient safety, and sterilization and care of surgical instruments preferred.Excellent written and verbal communications skills a must.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with patients, physicians, nurses and health system personnel.Endo, ED or Surgical Tech preferred.Knowledge of instruments used in the Endoscopy setting.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience RequiredHigh school diploma requiredCNA Certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing, Surgical Technician Certification or Prior Endo Experience.Current Basic Life Support Certification.Medical Technician graduate or Emergency Medical Technician certification preferred.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
Hourly range: $22.89 - $33.99
