Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Is an integral member of an integral member of an interdisciplinary team of prescribing clinicians, counselors, social workers, and peers providing care for patients with SUDs presenting to the hospital with acute care clinical needs. Under the direction of the Director of SUD Services and in collaboration with the designated physician, the NP will provide evidence=based care for patients with SUDs in the emergency department/ hospital for Addiction Consults as well as in the Walk-In/ Bridge Clinic within the outpatient addiction treatment program.Under the clinical supervision and oversight of the Director of Substance Use Disorder Treatment Services and his/her designee, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments to facilitate effective care for patients with SUDs, which includes substance use/ medical/ psychiatric histories, physical and mental status examinations, review of laboratory and imaging studies, diagnosis of SUD and co-occurring conditions, and formulation of treatment plans for patients within his/ her particular scope of practiceProvide patient care in a thorough and competent manner, which may include:
Provide medical management withdrawalProvide medication treatment for alcohol, opioid and other SUDsProvide harm reduction and overdose prevention education for substance useAssess patients for acute medical and mental health needs
Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

At least one year's satisfactory experience as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner in providing direct services to adult patients with substance use disorders
