JOB SUMMARY:

Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU) is a private, non-profit institution of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawai'i's largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu's business district.

Hawaii Pacific University, School of Nursing is seeking a dynamic Assistant/Associate Professor faculty candidate to teach in-person and online courses across the BSN and Graduate programs. The successful candidate will engage in peer-reviewed scholarly activities that will lead to rank promotion and engage in department, School, and university service. Experience in program development, curriculum design, and CCNE accreditation is preferred.

This is a full-time position with up to 24 credits of teaching over a nine-month calendar year.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Earned doctorate in nursing (PhD, EdD or DNP) or education or a science related to nursing from an accredited institution. If a doctoral degree is not in nursing must have a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution. Applicants who are in candidacy and expect to complete the dissertation (or final project phase) of the doctoral program within one-year will be considered. * Licensed or eligible for RN licensure. * One year of collegiate teaching experience or at least 9 credits of graduate education on curriculum development, program evaluation and/or teaching methods desired for entry level positions.

Desired Qualifications:

* Ability to teach in both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs * Ability to teach in an online environment and or clinical/practicum * Demonstrated ability to teach in-person and online. * Demonstrated ability to do original research or scholarship appropriate for the discipline. * Demonstrate promise of institutional and professional service mentoring beyond teaching and scholarship. * Two years or more of online teaching using a Learning Management System (LMS), such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle. * Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, program assessment, program evaluation, and programmatic accreditation. * Demonstrated commitment to collaboration in a manner that promotes diversity and inclusion. * Demonstrated leadership skills in shared governance and faculty development

Other Qualifications:

* Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. * Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter, if necessary. * Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy. * Able to work all shifts and extended hours. * Upon hire, the candidate must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. * Able to teach classes scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends. * Successful candidates will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills. * Able to commit to come to work in person.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

1. Teaching (70%)

* Teach up to 24 credits per academic year, in 8-week and/or 16-week terms * Prepares and delivers course content to students, whether in the classroom, clinical laboratory, or online. * Plan and develop classes and syllabi for courses that meet the goals of the program, establish appropriate student learning outcomes, and use engaging and collaborative educational activities throughout the semester. * Plan and deliver individual classes that conform to the syllabus and other requirements of the University. * Demonstrate a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively in the context of an integrated education. * Maintain accurate and complete records on student participation and performance, use appropriate measures and evaluate student performance on the basis of established student learning outcomes, provide timely feedback to students and assign grades that are an accurate and fair evaluation of student work. * Submit grades and any other required documentation in a timely manner. * Post and maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient to students.

Serve as an advisor to students and provide informed advice. * Meet deadlines and follow directions of the program/department chair, associate dean or dean of the college. * Evaluate the teaching of colleagues through the process of peer review.

2. Scholarship and Professional Development (10%)

* Conduct research in particular field of knowledge disseminates findings in professional journals or presents research in appropriate forums. * Apply for, obtain, and manage internal and external research funding * If appropriate, directs research of other teachers or graduate students working for advanced academic degrees.

3. University Service (15%)

* Advises undergraduate and graduate students on academic and vocational curricula, acting as advisor to student organizations, mentor students, and providing office hours for students. * Attend orientation programs and Faculty Assembly meetings and participate in academic duties. * Participate in committees; course, program and curriculum area coordination; curricular development and textbook selection; instructional workshops and activities within own curricular areas, policy and program review; or other learning assessments. * Serve as representatives on school or college level and university level committees of the Faculty Assembly, as well as on other task forces and committees that assist the chair of the Faculty Assembly and/or the deans in the formation of academic policies and related matters. * Assist with co-curricular activities to include organization of, participation in, or presentation of faculty forums or workshops; advising and sponsorship of clubs and societies; participation in, organization of, providing guidance and assistance to extra-curricular or co-curricular university events, such as the White Coat Ceremony, Pinning Ceremony, and Doctoral Hooding Ceremony * May provide professional consulting services to external agencies and industries.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
