Duties & Responsibilities:
Functions as the academic-practice public health workforce faculty contact by supporting and implementing public health workforce activities, initiatives, and pathways in close partnership with the Office of Public Health Studies (OPHS) leadership and faculty, the health policy & management (HPM) specialization, the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH), and other community and organizational stakeholders.
Brings expertise specifically in the area of applied public health training, best practices, and health equity in the state of Hawaii and in the national or international training context.
Manages, coordinates, and supports implementation of activities related to career pathways development and helps with alignment between postsecondary educational institutions and the workforce.
Develops scholarship via peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly products around public health workforce and public health practice.
Obtains external funding related to public health workforce and public health practice.
Supervises the academic-practice public health workforce project staff.
Works with relevant parties to support existing pathways for internships and field experiences that align with DOH needs.
Facilitates collaboration between UH OPHS, UH, and Hawaii DOH in the development of shared plans to support public health workforce needs.
Represents the applied-practice public health workforce perspective in local professional organizations and community events.
Meets with counterparts in the UH system and other universities and organizations to keep abreast of new practices and training opportunities.
Teaches and mentors graduate and undergraduate courses in public health.
Builds instructional applied public health modules to support sharing of expertise.
Participates in curriculum development activities as appropriate.
Participates in and produces professional development and training opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in public health, health administration, public policy, nursing, social work, or a related field.
Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrated ability and passion for teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
Demonstrated knowledge of career & technical education pathways and workforce development concepts.
Demonstrated professional experience in applied public health practice.
Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role.
Demonstrated ability in mentoring and program design.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working with university partnerships.
History of work in various public health practice settings in Hawaii and/or Pacific.
Established record of leadership in public health administration.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Experience mentoring and supervising students.
Experience coordinating activities with health organizations.
