DESCRIPTION
An employee in this classification performs the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician at the Paramedic level; operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and administering appropriate emergency medical care to patients while enroute to a hospital*This includes $0.75 per hour shift differential for weekends.DUTIES
Employee is responsible for responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons and transporting persons to a medical facility. Employee is exposed to the normal hazards of emergency rescue work, including risk of exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through observation, reports, and discussion concerning the quality and effectiveness of duties and responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have Knowledge of occupational and county policies. Ability to promote good public relations and work with citizens, doctors and hospital employees; ability to perform the physical activities required, to include, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pulling, stooping, walking and other physical exertions of 300 pounds of force with assistance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Certification by the North Carolina Medical Examiners Board as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic
Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.Certification by the North Carolina Medical Examiners Boards as a Paramedic Current certifications in CPR NIMS certifications 100, 200, 700, and 800. Possess ACLS, PALS and CPR Certification. International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification
High school diploma or GED

Years of service transferred from eligible NC Governmental Agencies (written documentation required) and the employee's work schedule are used to determine the rate of earning.
Petty LeaveEmployees earn fourteen (14) hours per calendar year. May use in increments of 15 minutes. Leave is pro-rated based as of date of hire in the first calendar year of employment. Petty leave must be used within the calendar year.
Longevity PayThe County offers longevity pay to employees with 5 years of continuous service.
