Job Summary
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC)’s Associate Deans are primarily responsible for shaping a division’s success, growth, and future. They influence the professional growth and development of individual faculty and students. Effective Associate Deans clarify, communicate, and implement the department’s vision, mission, guiding principles, goals, and expectations. Acting as the primary spokesperson for assigned faculty and students, they work with College administration, peer institutions, the community, and prospective students in curriculum development, recruitment, and retention.The Associate Dean, Business Information Systems (BIS) plays a key leadership role and serves as a member of the School of Business Leadership Team. Under minimal supervision, the Associate Dean performs complex assignments and fulfills broad responsibilities related to program review, curriculum development, budget management, and efficient use of instructional space.The Associate Dean will have supervisory authority over faculty and staff assigned to the BIS Division and will foster teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation while creating a shared vision for the BIS Division.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership and Management
Provide leadership, support, and supervision for department or division faculty and staff.Coordinate faculty and staff in endeavors to achieve the College’s mission and strategic plan.Manage the department or division in compliance with college procedures, guidelines, and direction.Academic Programs
Assist the Dean in developing new and modifying existing programs to promote student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.Initiate, plan, and oversee implementation of all academic offerings in the division.Ensure inter-department/inter-division coordination and cooperation.Students
Serve as liaison for the department or division, especially for students.Coordinate with Student Services and faculty members to recruit students.Budget
Prepare and maintain a department or division budget.Maintain fiscal control of department budgets.Personnel
Ensure that College personnel policy and procedure is appropriately applied.Coordinate and approve compensation within guidelines.Teaching
ADs are permitted to teach one class per term, ensuring that teaching schedules do not detract from primary administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years teaching experience.Experience with significant participation in department level processes.Experience with student learning outcomes assessment principles and practices.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with budgeting and accounting systems.Tenured faculty member in the department (for internal candidates).Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Innovative, collaborative, and flexible management style.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Special Instructions
