Kendrah Mincey 786-822-3851POSITION DESCRIPTION:This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all duties in the optimum responsible manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth, and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.Responsibilities include adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth and staff, ensuring compliance with court orders, and assisting in the operation of a secure detention center.Key duties involve:Supervising youth in all activities and maintaining control through directives and counseling.Inspecting facility, youth, visitors, and packages for contraband.Training and coaching employees on facility policies and procedures.Writing reports and preparing required records regarding incidents and youth movement.Using security and emergency equipment to ensure safety.Completing checks for confined or at-risk youth.Maintaining valid Driver License and reporting changes to the supervisor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of department policies and procedures, safety procedures, and good hygiene practices. Skills in recognizing signs of potential suicide or depression and addressing youth issues. Ability to determine appropriate levels of force, provide constructive feedback, and communicate effectively.SPECIAL NOTES:DJJ Detention facilities operate 24/7/365. Staff must be agreeable to working shift schedules, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
