Paralegal, Corporate Legal Services - Litigation
in our Chicago or Austin offices. Under the direction of lawyers on our corporate and litigation teams specializing in renewables-related corporate and litigation matters, this position provides a broad range of support to handle day-to-day corporate entity management and litigation case management. The successful candidate must be inquisitive, detail-oriented, team-oriented, and comfortable being part of a growing and dynamic corporate environment.Responsibilities:Document Preparation:Draft various corporate documents under attorney supervision, including Board resolutions and consents, distributions, contributions, assignments, and officer's certificates, and assist with the preparation of ancillary documents, schedules, and exhibits.Track the status of corporate matters with an emphasis on alerting the legal team of pertinent deadlines (i.e., Annual Reports and FinCEN filings).Track the status of litigation matters with an emphasis on alerting the legal team of pertinent deadlines.Proofread documents and track the status of document preparation for corporate and litigation related projects.Litigation Management:Place litigation holds and manage the litigation hold process.Manage and organize service of process notifications and electronic databases.Gather information and documents, conduct fact-finding and coordinate witnesses.Organize subpoena and discovery response data and work with stakeholders to ensure completeness.Support depositions and witness preparation.Assist with invoice and settlement processing and compliance.Research, Filings, and Searches:Research internal corporate matters and analyze and summarize results for internal stakeholders.Prepare and file corporate documents as they relate to entity management.Document Retention:Maintain a centralized repository for forms and corporate documents.Locate applicable precedent in repositories upon request.Maintain investigation and litigation files, including maintaining an accurate record of all litigation, arbitration, mediation and pre-litigation matters.Communication:Communicate regularly with the corporate team and internal clients regarding the status of projects and deadlines, and inform the corporate legal team of any issues.Proactively docket, manage, and monitor matters and notify attorneys of deadlines and actions needed.Respond directly to requests from outside counsel, insurers, and other stakeholders.Participate in internal legal teams' status meetings.Training and Development:Assist in the development and coordination of virtual and in-person training sessions on legal education topics, as needed.Other projects to enhance the efficiency or effectiveness of the corporate and litigation legal teams.Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate is required.Minimum 8 years of corporate entity management experience within a mid-to large-size law firm or corporate setting.Minimum 1 year of litigation case management experience.Experience in the renewable energy sector is highly preferred.Experience with insurance coverage topics arising in the dispute context and working with assigned insurance counsel preferred.Able to handle confidential information and create efficient routines and practices.Proficient in office software products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.Proactive self-starter who understands the details within the larger context and who will propose and implement structures and systems where none currently exist.Resourceful and appropriate decision-maker, knowing when to inform a supervisor of a situation but also willing to become the "go to" person for matters.Able to juggle multiple assignments and prioritize accordingly.Diplomatic and able to get others to collaborate without overt use of authority.Able to express and articulate themselves clearly, including the use of proper grammar and appropriate vocabulary, as well as the ability to describe a set of facts or information in an organized, precise, clear and unambiguous fashion.Strong organizational and time management skills.Able to work independently and collaboratively, depending on the situation.Sound judgment, common sense, and ingenuity to apply knowledge to assess alternatives and to identify and recommend solutions.Able to adjust work schedule and maintain flexibility to meet transaction team needs.This position will reside at RWE's office in downtown Chicago, IL, or Austin, TX, with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.Benefits offered:
