Job DescriptionProvides accurate, timely, business-oriented legal advice to all levels of Smiths Detection Inc. (SDI) in connection with obtaining and performing contracts on commercial and U.S. Government programs in a fast-paced environment while promoting compliant growth and protecting SDI’s interests.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide legal support and counsel to SDI’s contracts team and business on transactional matters from cradle to grave, including proposal development, negotiations, contract performance, subcontract flow-downs & supply chain management issues, dispute resolution in connection with commercial and Government contracting, contract close out, and internal and external audits.
Effectively drive contract negotiations to closure, e.g., redlining and negotiating a broad range of contracts (e.g. hardware, services, license agreements, and leases).
Advise on government requirements and FAR/DFARS clauses, as well as other unique areas of law in connection with US Government and state & local governments contracts/programs.
Manage compliance reviews, internal and external audits, and corrective actions.
Support and lead when necessary: development and implementation of policies and processes.
Provide training to all levels of SDI.
Mentor and develop SDI contracts team.
The IndividualEducation/Training:
JD from accredited Law School; B.A./B.S. from an accredited college or university
7-10 years of professional experience, preferably both law firm and in-house
Bar: Must be a member of the bar in at least one state or DC and be in good standing with the bar.
Critical/Required Skills:
Excellent understanding of FAR/DFARS and government unique requirements and acquisition processes.
Proven record of judgment, discretion and reasoning, particularly when balancing business needs, legal requirements and ethical/compliance obligations.
Experience presenting and interacting with C-Suite, i.e., clear & concise written and oral communication.
Timely escalation as needed and required.
Solid analytical skills and business acumen, and ability to share analysis (1) internally at all levels of the organization in simple, non-legalese terms, taking into account the audience, and (2) externally with customers, partners and oversight agencies.
Management skills, including ownership.
Salary & BenefitsThe compensation for this position ranges from $110,491 - $165,737/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions. Smiths Detection provides comprehensive benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan.
