Description of Work Unit

The Office of Engagement and Extension ( OEE ) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, CSU Extended Campus (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension ( VPEE ) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The total of budgets is approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. Annually, CSU Extended Campus garners enrollments of over 10,000 learners and CSU Extension delivers approximately 500,000 educational contacts

The Administrative Assistant, based in the Tri River Area (Mesa, Delta, Montrose, and Ouray counties) in the Western region of Colorado will be based in the Montrose County office located in Montrose, CO. Mesa County has a population of approximately 155,000 with Grand Junction as the primary urban community. Grand Junction serves as a major trade and medical center for western Colorado and eastern Utah. Delta County has a population of approximately 30,000 and the county office is in Delta. Montrose County has a population of approximately 41,000 and the office is located in Montrose. Ouray County has a population of approximately 4,100 with the county office housed in the Montrose office. The area population is growing as people relocate for employment, retirement, and the desirability of the area as a place to live. Position Summary

The Administrative Assistant, Tri-River Area, performs clerical and administrative work, which includes answering telephones, greeting the public, and providing customer assistance. Position will create a variety of documents, assist/maintain web pages, perform basic accounting duties, maintain files, supply inventory, and many other office functions. Additionally, this position supports the Extension Specialists in the Montrose County office and overall, Tri-River Area.

This position must be willing and able to work in Montrose, CO, and support the Extension Specialists in the Montrose County office, in addition to the specialists in the Tri-River Area. This position is required to work in the Montrose County office and will not be eligible for hybrid work. The position is fully in-office/in-person.

Required Job Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills for assisting various customer groups (internal/external colleagues, community members, etc.) and directing people to the appropriate Extension Specialist.

Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in a variety of scenarios.

Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.

Office management skills of which include maintaining appropriate inventory, office equipment, and anticipating the needs of the office and Extension Specialists.

Financial math and cash handling skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time, working in a dynamic environment.

Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Completed associate or bachelor’s degree.

Working knowledge Adobe or Canva applications and creative suites used to generate marketing materials, including newsletters, mass emails, flyers, etc.

Experience or knowledge of CSU Extension and 4-H programs, youth development, volunteer coordination, etc. including working with community members (youth, volunteers, customers, colleagues, etc.) from a variety of backgrounds.

Creativity and the ability to generate appealing web, print, and digital content.
