UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Coordinates the notification of LMPD, federal, state, local and tribal criminal justice agencies regarding time sensitive information that is vital to officer safety through the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS)Enters, modifies and validates data according to national and internal requirementsCommunicates with police officers to provide information and verify identity of individuals being detained or investigated to determine if a current warrant existsCompletes and processes forms, documents and correspondenceActs as liaison between officers and court systems pertaining to mental inquest and criminal warrantsAssists in the transfer of and tracking of targeted dataPrepares and maintains various logsCommunicates with and provides information to external law enforcement agencies regarding the status of stolen property, wanted/missing persons, and other related police mattersReceives, processes and completes requests for hit confirmations for law enforcement agencies on hot files within ten minutes according to NCIC and state policies and proceduresReceives, interprets and disseminates bulletins, requests for service and other requests for assistance from law enforcement agenciesEvaluates situations and makes decisions for assistance based on standard operating proceduresRefers citizens to appropriate governmental, community, social services, and other law enforcement agencies for assistancePerforms related work
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or the equivalentEighteen months of clerical experience, nine of which must have been in computerized record-keeping proceduresOther Minimums:
Must be a US CitizenMust type accurately at 35 wpmMust be a minimum of 18 years of ageMust be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph. IMPORTANT JOB INFORMATION:
This position is a public safety position within the National Crime Information Center unit. NCIC, is an electronic clearinghouse of crime data that can be accessed by virtually every criminal justice agency nationwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The unit processes predominantly sensitive data which requires a great deal of attention to detail with promptness for daily operations. It helps criminal justice professionals apprehend fugitives, locate missing persons, recover stolen property, and identify terrorists. It also assists law enforcement officers in performing their duties more safely and provides information necessary to protect the public.
This is a
union position
and
all union employees pay fair share to the union whether or not they elect to be a member.
Shift selection, vacation bidding and overtime are all covered under the union contract . NCIC has two 12-hour shifts currently. 6AM - 6PM & 6PM - 6AM. Upon hire you must
rotate through all
shifts
for training purposes. The time that an individual will stay in this rotating schedule will vary, depending on the individual. Shift selection is based on seniority. The NCIC Unit is a 24/7 operation which
mandates employees work on holidays
if it should fall on their rotation. Overtime is
mandatory
and can
extend an 8 hour shift up to an additional 8 hours
with little or no notice.
