Job Description: Our company is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Engineer - Level II to join our dynamic team in the National Capital Region. As a Database Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. The ideal candidate will have experience in database design, development, performance tuning, and incident management, collaborating with network operations teams to support overall network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain databases, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security.Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and monitoring of database systems.Design and develop database systems that meet organizational needs and support network operations.Create and maintain database schemas, tables, stored procedures, and other database objects.Analyze database performance issues and implement solutions to optimize performance.Conduct regular performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization to ensure efficient database operations.Implement and enforce database security measures to protect sensitive data.Ensure data integrity by developing and implementing policies and procedures for effective data management.Utilize incident management systems (e.g., MHS ServiceNow) to log, track, and resolve database-related incidents.Troubleshoot and resolve database issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.Work closely with network operations teams to ensure database systems support overall network infrastructure.Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand database requirements and provide updates on database status and issues.Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, changes, and incidents.Prepare and submit regular reports on database performance, issues, and resolutions.Ensure compliance with DoD and DHA policies and standards for database security.Conduct regular security assessments and audits of database systems.Provide support and training to other team members and end-users on database-related topics.Develop and maintain knowledge base articles and standard operating procedures for database management.Stay updated with the latest database technologies and best practices.Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the performance, security, and reliability of database systems.IAT II or CCNA-Security, CySA+ (CySA+ is a CompTIA certification formerly listed as CSA+), GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCPCE: Associate (professional preferred) level certificate for supported technology such as, MCSA: SQL 2016 (or most recent) Database Administration or equivalent or Oracle Database 12c (or most recent) Administrator Certified Associate or equivalent as approved by the CORFour (4) years of progressive experience demonstrating the required proficiency.Bachelor's degree and/or equivalency.Proven expertise in system administration, including server operating systems management and troubleshooting.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to address unique and complex challenges.Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead teams and coordinate project activities.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders.Proficiency in requirements documentation and business process modeling.Strong data analysis skills and the ability to extract insights from data.Familiarity with industry-standard system administration tools and methodologies.Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.Experience with portfolio acquisition and contracts management desirable.Current or past DHA support experience preferredSupport Monday - Friday work week with occasional weekend and after-hours support.Must be able to lift up to 35lbs regularlyMust be able to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving throughout facilities/site to site.
