Job Duties
*This accountant position is based in the Office of Licensure and Certification.
Performs professional level work of moderate difficulty requiring the application of accounting theory and principles. Characteristic duties: develop methods of recording fiscal transactions, allocate, funds, update and maintain accounting systems, independently prepare financial statements/reports/cost analyses, and develop and present budgets and other financial information for review. Other major duties: all functions of compensation accounting that includes assuring timely processing of payrolls, distributions or checks, preparing federal/state tax reporting, fringe benefits, and premium conversion. May supervise or lead fiscal paraprofessionals and/or other support personnel.
Budget Preparation and Financial Planning• Assisting in the development, monitoring, and reporting of budgets for assigned program areas• Compiling and analyzing budget data, including past and current spending, expenditure trends, revenue reports, and regulatory complianceAccounts Payable and Receivable Management• Processing and reviewing accounting transactions within program areas• Verifying completeness and accuracy of vouchers and accounts receivable reports• Conducting CARS report downloads for reconciliation purposes• Ensuring accurate coding on all accounting vouchersFiscal Reporting and Financial Reconciliation• Preparing and formatting fiscal reports for divisions or program areas• Collecting, researching, and analyzing data independently to support decision-making• Monitoring financial data and reconciling discrepancies across systems• Executing corrective actions to resolve reconciliation errors• Generating ad hoc financial reports• Conducting internal audits to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable regulationsAdaptability and Emergency Support• Ability to perform additional duties as required, including functions that support emergency declarations and rapid response needs
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of Accounting Principles: Demonstrated working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices, including cost accounting.• Data Processing Techniques in Accounting: Familiarity with data processing techniques used in maintaining accurate accounting records.• Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills: Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and potentially macros, with the ability to use these tools for financial analysis and reporting.• Adaptability in Accounting Methods: Proven ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to manage a variety of financial transactions, records, and multiple funding streams.• Financial Report Design and Compilation: Experience designing and compiling accurate, comprehensive financial reports and statements tailored to meet the needs of decision-makers.
