Bus Driver
Transport children safely to/from school and other approved destinations. Make sure wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, and booster seats are installed correctly. Assist with students with special needs as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Transport students for the assigned schoolsProperly check vehicle and report any deficienciesMaintain route information and associated paperworkWork with building principals to maintain student disciplineQualifications:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) - proof requiredCLD with School Bus endorsementCurrent Bus Driver CertificationSuccessful FBI & BCII background check in accordance with Board of Education Policy and the applicable ORCBus Monitor
Help children safely board the bus. Help special needs children into their seats. Make sure wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, and booster seats are installed correctly. Assist with students with special needs.
Essential Functions
Help maintain positive control over the students transported on the school busObserve mandatory safety regulations for school busesHelp maintain pupil control and report any violations to the proper authorities as prescribedKnow students and have a general knowledge of their special needsNotify the supervisor in case of illness so as to permit time to secure a substitute driverPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, conversation, and the clean/orderly appearance of the school busMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student medical records, etc.Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacyInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationAttend meetings and in-services as requiredServe as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizensOther Duties and Responsibilities
Report all accidents and complete required reportsEnforce applicable Board policiesAttend bus driver meetings and be available in the event of emergency dismissalConduct rear door emergency evacuation drillsRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerPerform other duties as assigned by the Transportation SupervisorQualifications
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) - proof requiredA satisfactory Criminal CheckMust hold a valid Ohio Teacher's Aide CertificatePhysical capability of safely and appropriately lifting and managing preschool and special needs childrenAbility to cope with stressful situationsSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsAbility to have full control with bus discipline at all timesKnowledge of basic first aidAbility to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labelsAbility to be patient and understandingEquipment Operated

Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissueFrequent interaction among unruly childrenOccasional extensive sitting, up to 2 hours at a timeOccasional requirement to stand and walkFrequent requirement to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, read, hear, and see (occasional color vision required)Occasional requirement to lift and carry up to a maximum of 65 poundsOccasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels)Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
