Senior Geologist or Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Geologist or a Senior Geologist for a specialized, fast-growing environmental engineering firm. This role will lead projects involving groundwater, soil, and soil vapor assessment and remediation, and a varietyof geological and civil projects. The incumbent will work in a close-knit project team and could mentor a staff of up to four (4) team members.
Job Responsibilities:Prepare and write technical documents and various reports (or portions thereof),including site assessment, remediation implementation, operations and maintenance, remedial progress, and othersCompile field-generated geologic, hydrogeologic, and laboratory data into tables,maps, cross-sections, etc.Draft soil boring logs and checking work products for accuracyUpload site data and completed reportsto State databasesAdhere to all Health and Safety programs and preparing Health and SafetyPlans and Job Hazard Analyses for field workEvaluating the site’s geologic and chemicaldata to recommendnext steps to project team and prepare work plansfor site assessmentLiaison with permitting agenciesto secure permitsfor site work (well installation, street encroachment, tank removal, etc.)Liaison with analytical laboratories to arrange deliveryand appropriate lab analysis of samplesLiaison with various subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, etc.) to scheduleand oversee site activitiesPrepare cost estimates for site assessment, remediation, and related activities and liaison with regulatory agencies and clientsTurn in receipts and sub-contractor invoices and enter billable time into a Company accounting databaseStay abreastof regulatory and technical developments affecting Company’s clientsand projectsProject management responsibilities including planning and execution of projects, client relationship management, preparing budgets and serving as the regulatory liaisonand negotiatorInterview, hire, train, mentor and lead staff in environmental consulting and related technical and regulatory areasOversee site assessment, investigation and remedial activities, soil excavations and aboveground/underground tank removalsSoil, groundwater, and soil vapor sample collection, logging, and preservation and proper containerization and disposalof investigation-derived wastesMaintaining site organization and cleanliness during field activitiesOversight of complexfield programs, potentially involving multiple staff and multiplesubcontractorsSite meetings with regulatory agency representatives and clients to discuss and review project goals, plans, and progress
Required Experience, Skills and Education:5 to 10 years' experience in environmental assessment and remediation and project managementKnowledge and experience in environmental regulations relating to site assessmentExcellent verbal communication and technical writing skillsAbility to work effectively within small projectteams and strong mediating skillsAbility to produce quality work products on time and withinassigned budgetsPassion for learning new things and sufficient background in math, chemistry and physics to apply knowledge to environmental remediationStrong systems experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPointExperience in supervising employees and consultants involved in each project.Ability to travel to project locations as required.Bachelor's degreein Geology or other relateddiscipline e.g., Earth Science, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology, etc. requiredCalifornia Professional Geologist (P.G.) requiredCertified Engineering Geologist (C.E.G.) or Certified Hydrogeologist (C.Hg) desired
