QUALITY ENGINEER

Description

Provides quality support and leadership for all new and existing products and processes in the plant. Coordinates with the proper company personnel to provide timely and accurate answers for the customers. Leads development and refinement of product specific Quality systems to ensure compliance to customer standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Promote safety to all team members, customers, and suppliersOperates PC-based software programs including but not limited to: Motic Images, Microsoft Word, Excel, Mini Tab, and PCDMISSupport product launches, Engineering changes and/or improvement changes at customer location and ensures Quality systems are updated to complianceAssists in training new Quality employees in all aspects of Quality inspections and document training with education and Training sign-in sheetsMonitor floor to ensure product is produced to customer specification and inspection activities are being conducted in accordance with control plan requirementsHelp to establish breakpoint for non-conforming materialLead problem solving activities for customer issues and provide customer with complete 8DIssue of RMA for customer issuesConduct internal audits to ensure conformance with IATF 16949 requirementsSupport plant floor inspections and Dock AuditsDevelop and implement preventive actions for plant production processesUnderstanding of customer issues, development, communication, and ensuring adherence to Quality alertsDevelop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluationDevise forms/instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability dataEvaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testingInitiate and implement re-work instructionsPrepare and submit PPAP per customer requirementsObtain PPAP approval for new product and process changesPerform/Support root cause analysis methodology using the 8D formatInitiate claims to suppliers for defective materialsMaintain a clean and safe work environmentMust be able to maintain a professional demeanor when delivering information that may be negative to our internal and external customersOther duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilitiesWorking knowledge of ISO/TS16949 IATF standardProficient in Core Quality Tools - APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPCProblem Solving tools such as 8D, Is – Is not, Cause and Effect, etc.,Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to read and interpret blueprints.Ability to effectively interface and communicate with customersAbility to manage people and projectsExcellent written and oral communications skills to successfully communicate with people at all organizational levelsKnowledgeable in training techniquesEffective interpersonal skills, including listening and persuasionExperienced in quality system and process auditsWorking knowledge of Six Sigma conceptsData collection and statistical analysis; Minitab preferredKnowledge of processes used in manufacturing facility, customer facilities, and supplier facilities.Must be able to make good judgment calls concerning parts, quality, etc.Must understand basic math and statisticsAbility to use a calculator and other basic measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers.

Requirements

Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree in a technical area such as Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, Materials/Supply Chain, Engineering, etc.May consider eight (8) years of directly relevant Quality/Manufacturing experience in lieu of Bachelor Degree.At least five (5) years experience in a Quality role performing responsibilities that are same as or similar to those listed in the Job Summary.Must have knowledge of PPAP, 8D methodology, supplier quality, quality tools, and customer web-based systems.Must have prior hands-on experience with testing equipment including but not limited to: depth gage, calipers, micrometer, tape measure, product gauges, and CMM preferred.High School Diploma or equivalency (HSED or GED).
