About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and innovative Mechatronics Engineer to join our cutting-edge robotics team at Hillbot AI. The role requires an individual with a strong mechanical and electrical engineering background, a passion for robotics, and a desire to contribute to developing mobile robots. The ideal candidate takes pride in their design and aesthetics, hands-on work, analytical ability, communication skills, and attention to details. A typical day of work includes working with multidisciplinary and cross-functional groups through the design cycles to refine and implement the product specification targets. This role offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technology and collaborate with top engineers in the robotic field.Job ResponsibilitiesMechanical:Design, develop, and integrate the mechanical structure of mobile robots.Design and manufacture custom fixtures as well as support fast prototyping for specific needsDesign joints and structures optimized for mass, stiffness, cost, and manufacturingApply analytical methods including calculations and simulations for the design and optimization of mechanical componentsCollaborate with engineers to fabricate and assemble the robot's mechanical structurePerform regular maintenance for the mechanical structureElectrical:Design, develop, and test the electrical structure of mobile robots.Source electronic components based on application needs, integrating and testing components to ensure performance and reliabilityCollaborate with engineers to prototype, assemble, and integrate the electrical componentsEngage in real-world robot experiments, assembling, and troubleshooting electrical systemsSupport engineers in lab activities including clear understanding of electrical equipment for safe troubleshooting, operation and maintenanceRequired Qualifications2-5+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineer with a focus in machine design, robotics, and product developmentExcellent mechanical and electrical first principles skills, and experience with software. Demonstrated interdisciplinary skill is a plusStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.Mechanical:Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, Creo or similar.Understanding of metal and polymer properties in mechanical designHands-on fabrication or machine-shop experience with tools such as 3-axis mill, lathe, CNC, drill press, metal bending, laser-cutting machines.Experience using filament printers (e.g., BambuLab, Prusa) with different materials (e.g., PLA, ABS)Experience using Resin printers (e.g., Prusa SL1S/CW1S).Electrical:Good understanding of analog and digital electronics principles.Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, power supplies, and other standard EE lab equipmentStrong soldering and PCB rework skillsFabricate cable harnesses - familiar with various sleeving, wire, cable and connector types, crimp tools and techniquesKnowledge of sensor integration and power management.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of robotic sensing/actuation systems and sensor integration.Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools.Knowledge of control systems, electronics with experience working with servo motors and sensors is a big plus.Knowledge of manufacturing processes and vendor management.Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN bus, Modbus and USB.
