Senior Cost Estimator

About the RoleThe Senior Estimator is responsible for creating the Estimate for the construction project. The Estimate is an essential Contract Document that is used to manage the construction project and to determine overall project financial success. Utilizing knowledge of building methods, materials, and sequencing, the Senior Estimator is responsible for making timely determinations that materially impact the scale and scope of the estimate. The Senior Estimator also writes the applicable subcontractor contracts, verifies certificates of insurance, and procures the materials and labor to be in compliance with the Owner contract. Two or more Estimators, Project Estimators, or Engineers may report to the Senior Estimator at any given time. Senior Estimators may be assigned one or more projects with a total value ranging from $50m - $100m.
Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Construction, Engineering, Architecture, or BusinessMinimum of 8 years of construction experience as an estimatorAdvanced capabilities in construction estimation software (preferred – Destini Estimator).Advanced understanding of construction means, methods, materials, and building codes.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracyPrimary DutiesLead the preparation of comprehensive cost estimates for projects, including quantity takeoffs, labor, equipment, and material costs.Manage the full bid process, including the development of bid packages, soliciting and reviewing subcontractor bids, and submitting proposals to clients.Analyze architectural plans, specifications, and other documents to ensure all required components are accurately estimated.Identify potential cost savings and provide solutions without compromising quality or performance.Work with subcontractors to secure competitive pricing, develop scope clarifications, and ensure compliance with project requirements.Work closely with Client Executives, Project Managers, and Superintendents during the design and preconstruction phases to ensure alignment with budgets and timelines.Identify project risks and propose solutions or contingency plans to minimize exposure during the bidding and execution stages.Provide guidance, training, and supervision to Estimators and Project Estimators, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all estimates.Monitor project budgets post-award and compare actual costs to estimated costs throughout the project lifecycle, making adjustments where necessary.Physical RequirementsMust be physically fit enough to function safely on a project site and office setting. This includes the following:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer with repetitive movements.Must be able to use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises.Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators, and copiers.Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, receive ordinary information, and prepare or inspect documents.Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers.Additional RequirementsCurrent driver’s license, required.Work on-site at a main office or project location, requiredMay be called after hours and on weekends to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsiteMay require travel
