Summary:
The Extrusion Design Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for Extrusion tool design and sustain continuous improvement to existing tooling and equipment at MME and MMW. They will lead the tool design process from development phase all the way through the production release to improve existing extrusions and introduce new extrusions into manufacturing by performing the following duties:
Essential Functions:Design and development of extrusion dies and associated tooling. Modify existing tooling to improve processing and productivity.Analyze, research, design and develop an extrusion process for new and existing product lines.Gather and analyze data during the development cycle to build a repeatable extrusion process.Monitor Extrusion tooling and equipment to optimize performance. Help troubleshoot problems as required.Initiate, participate or lead Extrusion process and productivity improvement project teams. Use Lean Manufacturing principles in carrying out improvement activity.Work closely with Extrusion Operators and assist manufacturing to resolve production issues as required.Participate in New Product and Process Development (NPD) process.Assist in quoting new opportunities with Sales and Manufacturing to help grow the business. When appropriate communicate with customers to better understand needs.Assist in the selection and design of equipment for the extrusion process.Assist in the development and implementation of Corrective Actions.Perform Tooling Qualifications (TQ) for new or revised extrusion tooling.As needed assist the completion of process validations, including writing of validation protocols.Support and participate in Quality Improvement programs.Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are critical.Stay current with technology.Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Education and/or ExperienceB.S. Degree in engineering, science or technical discipline preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience or over 10 years of technical experience with appropriate outside training.Experience with Solid Works, Pro E, Computer Aided Drafting Software, and experience in Extrusion Die and Tool Design.Must be able to interpret drawings and specifications for extrusion projects and develop validations that meet quality standards.Must be able to use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices.Knowledge of ISO 13485 is preferred
