As an Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in the designing, building, and programming of machines. Your responsibilities will include programming and designing mechanical systems and ensuring automated systems' smooth integration and optimal performance. Responsibilities of Automation Controls Engineer:Design engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasksDesign electromechanical equipment or systemsCreate mechanical design documents for parts, assemblies, or finished products.Review and design layout and material presentation strategies for production areas to optimize manufacturing flow and minimize wasted time, effort, and cost.Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance.Review new product designs for effective and low-cost manufacturing process flows.Initiate action and follow-up to incorporate changes prior to pre-production sign-off.Implement or test design solutionsPublish engineering reports documenting design details or qualification test resultsProvide cost estimates for process improvements on new products and significant product changes.Specifies and provides necessary tools, fixtures, equipment, and related training as required for plant production and testing.Investigate new process control & inventory strategies, machine tool innovations, and improvements in plant layout design to continuously up-date production efficiencies.Evaluate suppliers' capabilities to meet future requirements, advise new manufacturing methodology, and recommend equipment investments.Responsible for quality improvement and cost reduction of assigned products. Share responsibility for meeting departmental cost reduction goals.Lead continuous Improvement - reduce waste, drive cost reductions, and improve quality through Lean and Six Sigma activities.
Qualifications:Minimum of 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment in the design and build of custom equipment and automation.Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experienceA strong working knowledge of mechatronics, automation, robotics, vision systems, electrical, mechanical power transmission, hydraulics, and pneumatics.Ability to troubleshoot, assist in maintaining, repair/replace, and test automation systems, components, and networksBasic knowledge of Allen-Bradley and IEC 61131 hardware/software. Cognex vision systems is a plus.Ability to troubleshoot/ modify existing equipment systems, including controls (PLC and HMI programs, servo drives, and motors), automation and robotics, electrical, mechanical power transmission, hydraulics, and pneumaticsConsult with suppliers to specify products or systems for installation and arrange for purchases of equipment, tooling, materials, and/or partsParticipate in or lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiativeAnalytical – Ability to utilize statistical analysis and draw conclusions from data to solve complex problemsMultitasking - Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
