Associate General Counsel (Labor & Employment Attorney)Additional Position Details:
This is an onsite position and would require relocation to southern Oregon for out of area candidates.Job SummaryOur dynamic and growing organization is seeking a skilled and experienced Labor and Employment Attorney to join our legal team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our organization's employment practices and maintaining positive labor/union relations. As a key member of the legal team, the attorney will provide strategic guidance, legal expertise, and proactive solutions to ensure compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations, mitigate risks, and foster a fair and inclusive work environment.This position will report to and work closely with the SVP, Chief Legal Officer, and will also collaborate with Associate General Counsels, compliance leaders, HR professionals, and the Asante leadership team, providing labor and employment legal counsel. This position will serve as a key stakeholder for any union negotiations. This is an opportunity to work in a collegial environment where you can work as a trusted legal advisor, serve as a member of a high-performance legal team, act as a driver of first-class labor and employment legal processes and practices within a dynamic organization, and serve as a key member of various cross-functional project teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLegal Counsel:Provide subject matter expertise and training on labor and employment matters, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, leaves of absence, internal investigations, terminations, and HR best practices.Provide counsel and advice on a wide range of employment matters across the organization.Provide counsel and guidance to management on a wide range of labor/union matters, including interpretation of contract issues arising under collective bargaining agreements and advising on labor law issues and disputes. Manage disciplinary matters, grievances, and arbitrations, and support the labor relations team. Participate in bargaining with the union.Assist with assessing company risks and balance with business needs to provide pragmatic legal advice while working collaboratively with the business groups and key stakeholders.Develop and conduct training and workshops to support the implementation of labor and employment solutions and toolkits to maximize sustainability.Labor/Union Relations:Collaborate with management to develop and implement effective labor relations strategies.Represent the organization in labor negotiations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution processes.Stay current on labor laws and industry trends to anticipate and address potential issues.Build and maintain positive relationships with unions, fostering open communication and collaboration.Advise on union-related matters, including collective bargaining agreements, grievances, and unfair labor practices.Employment Practices:Investigate and respond to employment-related complaints, discrimination claims, and harassment allegations.Analyze, draft, negotiate, review, and revise agreements and policies relating to employment relationships.Develop, review, and update employment policies to align with changing legal requirements and industry standards.Monitor and stay current on critical legal developments in Oregon and the US related to employment and labor to ensure the business timely adjusts policies, practices, and procedures.Drive process and program improvement through creation of best practices, toolkits, and other methods that can be scaled to achieve broad impact and sustainability.Litigation Management:Manage and oversee labor and employment-related litigation, working with external counsel as needed.Develop and implement strategies to minimize legal risks and potential liabilities.Position QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Minimum of five (5) years of meaningful, sustained traditional employment and labor law experience advising management either in a law firm or in-house.Active license to practice law in Oregon or ability to obtain in-house Oregon license.Highly agile with solid business acumen, sound and confident judgment, professional courage, and unquestionable integrity with discretion in dealing with highly sensitive information.Able to simplify legal technicalities into pragmatic recommendations and is fluent translating legal advice into appropriately risk-adjusted, business-oriented advice.Ability to engage and communicate comfortably and effectively with individuals across a wide range of functions and levels.Team player with ability to multi-task and prioritize.Tenacious, initiative-taking, and resilient with ability to perform with a good blend of operational experience and flexibility.Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws.Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proven ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.Total Rewards PackageEarn a competitive and highly progressive salary.Benefit from health plans that are focused on health and wellness including medical, dental, vision, and wellness beginning within 30 days of hire.Experience a healthy work-life balance with our generous earned time off (ETO).Continue to enhance your education through our tuition reimbursement and tuition repayment plans.At Asante we believe that we are defined by our values - the traits that guide us as we serve patients and the community:Excellence - Respect - Honesty - Service - TeamworkAsante is an equal opportunity employer.
