PURPOSE:The HR Director is responsible for driving strategic and HR operational excellence while supporting the business leaders at Tilcon Connecticut, a CRH Company. Although this role reports directly to the OpCo President, there is a strong relationship with the Division VP Human Resources and an expectation of collaboration and partnership with HR Leads at all OpCo’s within the Northeast Division.
The HR Director will contribute to business success through leadership in human resources, including employee relations & engagement, employment law, individual and team performance management, policy interpretation as well as partnering with management to develop and implement HR strategies in support of business goals and objectives.
Tilcon Connecticut does have unionized locations. Although this position is not responsible for negotiating union contracts, it is responsible for dealing with day-to-day issues that come up. The HR Director is responsible to build and enhance an engaging and progressive relationship with all non-union and unionized employees. As Tilcon Connecticut is predominantly a unionized environment, experience working within a unionized environment is preferred.
Travel will be required between the multiple locations within the state. Occasional travel outside of Connecticut may be required.
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Engaging and inspiring employees towards the establishment and maintenance of a positive safety culture.
Responsible for building collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization and is a trusted advisor and business partner.
Actively demonstrating leadership competencies to contribute to a high-performance work environment.
Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategies relating to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
Leads and manages the OpCo HR Team.
Leads or participates and works with HR or cross-functional teams to address business opportunities or challenges, large projects or business activities including acquisition/merger integration/facility closure.
Partners with management to develop and implement HR strategies in support of business goals and objectives. This also includes streamlining processes and data analytics.
Coaches, advises, trains and provides support to management on grievance administration/management, contract interpretation, leadership skills, resolving performance-related issues, conflict resolution, effective teamwork, effective employment termination, etc.
Provides guidance and expertise to management and employees regarding employment-related law and regulations, including the application of HR policies, processes, and activities. Lead/participate in investigations as required.
Facilitates execution of organizational development and change management initiatives.
Improves organizational, team and individual performance through effective delivery of HR services.
Facilitates internal communication processes and other employee feedback mechanisms.
Clearly cascades and communicates organizational objectives and ensures performance planning and evaluations are completed in line with schedule.
Supports employees with individual development planning.
Leads the annual succession planning and performance management cycles.
Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of human resources.
Be visible in the sites/locations across Tilcon Connecticut.
Meet corporate objectives and individual career aspirations by promoting developmental activities, coaching and training of managers and other future leaders.
Collaborates on internal and external communication strategies, utilizing the skills of Marketing & Communications.
Ensures compliance with all relevant employment practice laws and other government labor regulations, including Affirmative Action Plan, EEO/Veteran reporting.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's/University Degree.
Additional Education Preferred:
PHR or CP desired.
Preferred field of study:
Human Resources Management, Psychology, Business or a related field.
Work Experience:
8-12 years experience.
Travel Requirements:
Various locations across Connecticut. May be required to attend out of state meetings from time-to-time.
Computer Skills:
Technologically savvy, with a full understanding and fluency in computer applications including word processing, email, internet searches, database and presentation software (such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat Pro).
Required Personal Protective Equipment:
Will be supplied as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Highest level of interpersonal communication & listening skills including, tact, patience, flexibility and courtesy.
Ability to use discretion, sound judgment and maintain strictest confidentiality when handling sensitive materials and information.
Strong Analytical skills - command of qualitative financial analyses.
High level of business acumen - able to look at data and identify trends and underlying issues.
Strong written and communication skills - able to clearly articulate complex concepts simply.
Experience working with outside vendors and outsourced contractors.
Able to influence in a positive way, all levels of the organization.
Results-oriented - able to multi-task and delivers results against multiple priorities - with outstanding attention to detail.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
Must have a valid driver’s license and safely drive a vehicle.
