A law firm seeks a motivated Junior Associate Attorney to join their Santa Monica, CA team. The successful candidate will assist in advising clients on privacy and data security matters, specifically in the healthcare sector. This role involves drafting and updating privacy policies, procedures, training materials, and other related documents and providing general privacy counseling.Duties and Responsibilities
Assist clients in developing products and services, ensuring compliance with privacy laws.Draft and update privacy policies, procedures, training materials, notifications, consent forms, and related documents.Provide general privacy counseling to clients.Advise clients on HIPAA/Healthcare Privacy, consumer privacy, health information privacy, and human subjects research.Ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare privacy laws, including HIPAA, CMIA, Washington My Health My Data Act, and Nevada SB 370.Counsel clients on other federal privacy laws such as GLBA, FCRA, COPPA, and the FTC Act.Advise on comprehensive state privacy laws such as the CCPA.Guide international privacy laws and regimes, including the EU’s GDPR.Draft and negotiate privacy-related contracts and data processing agreements (BAAs, DPAs, DUAs).Conduct privacy compliance assessments and provide product counseling.Investigate, remediate, and draft notifications for privacy and security incidents.Stay updated on developments in ad tech and cybersecurity.Requirements
2-4 years of experience in healthcare privacy and other areas of privacy law.Solid understanding of HIPAA/Healthcare Privacy, consumer privacy, health information privacy, and human subjects research.Familiarity with federal healthcare privacy laws (HIPAA), state laws (CMIA, Washington My Health My Data Act, Nevada SB 370), and other federal privacy laws (GLBA, FCRA, COPPA, FTC Act).Knowledge of comprehensive state privacy laws such as the CCPA.Understanding of international privacy laws and regimes like the EU’s GDPR.Experience drafting privacy policies and negotiating privacy-related contracts and data processing agreements.Proven ability to conduct privacy compliance assessments and provide product counseling.Experience investigating and remediating privacy and security incidents, including drafting notifications.Background in ad tech and cybersecurity is desirable.Superior academic credentials.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.Strong professional references.California or District of Columbia Bar membership or eligibility to take the next available exam.Education and Certifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.Active membership in the California or District of Columbia Bar or eligibility to take the next available bar exam.Skills
