CMM Programmer/Operator .

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego, CA location and reports to the Quality Manager.

Position Summary:

The position will be responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to ensure the accuracy and precision of parts and components. The CMM Programmer/Operator will play a critical role in verifying product quality, identifying potential defects, and ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop, write, and modify CMM programs using Verisurf software on Articulated Arm, Laser Tracker, and Fixed CMMs.

Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to create accurate and efficient CMM programs.

Program and set up CMM machines for a wide range of parts, from simple to complex geometries.

Operate CMMs to perform measurements, inspections, and quality checks on manufactured parts.

Run inspections based on scheduled plans and customer requirements, ensuring parts meet dimensional tolerances.

Troubleshoot and resolve any programming or operational issues during CMM inspections.

Document inspection results, measurements, and deviations using CMM software and reports.

Communicate findings with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams.

Assist in creating and maintaining inspection protocols, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Perform regular calibration and preventive maintenance to ensure CMM accuracy and reliability.

Identify opportunities to optimize measurement processes and improve overall efficiency.

Suggest improvements to processes, tools, or workflows that enhance quality and reduce cycle times.

Stay updated with new CMM technologies, software, and best practices in quality control.

Work independently and as part of a team to solve technical problems.

Exhibit and promote an attitude that leads to an engaged and energized workforce.

Always operate in compliance with Rock West Composites’ quality management system. Adherence to all AS9100 including ISO 9001 requirements.

Comply with Rock West Composites’ company policies, procedures, and code of business conduct.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Proficiency with programming, operation, and troubleshooting Verisurf CMM software.

Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

High School diploma / GED is required. Associate’s degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Manufacturing Technology) preferred.

3+ years of experience operating and programming CMMs, preferably in a manufacturing or quality control environment.

Experience with composite materials and processing techniques such as autoclave, RTM, and compression molding. Composite manufacturing experience is a big plus.

Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills and work effectively across all areas of the business.

Current computer literacy is a must, including full proficiency in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

Experience with AS9100 including ISO 9001 quality management system.

Experience with visual factory and lean manufacturing methods such as 5S and Kaizen.

Experience with contact and noncontact inspection methods.

CMM programming or quality control certifications (e.g., NCSL, ASQ) are a plus.

Compensation:

The pay range for this position falls within $35 to $38. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
