The Equity Officer will support key projects and programs that promote equity within the Chicago Police Department (CPD), including implementing the CPD's Equity Plan and Racial Equity Action Plan. This role will involve collecting and analyzing data to identify trends, assess progress, and pinpoint areas for improvement. The Equity Officer will provide insights and recommendations on policies and practices to foster inclusivity and fairness within the CPD. Additionally, this position will collaborate with community stakeholders to facilitate transparent communication about CPD reforms, helping to build trust and foster positive community relationships.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES:
Develops resources and strategies to promote racial and social equity work within a department’s operations and services (e.g., access to affordable housing, library programming, healthcare services, etc.).
Works with department senior staff to develop goals and strategies that promote equity in department processes, practices, and policymaking for department’s workforce and City services provided to the general public.
Works closely with the department’s Human Resources, Labor Relations, Legal, and Public Affairs and Outreach sections on internal and external Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy.
Provides guidance on policy and DEI strategy initiatives that advance equitable outcomes for the department’s workforce and City services provided to the general public.
Supports city departments and agencies in normalizing concepts of racial equity, organizing staff to work together for transformational change, and operationalizing new practices, policies, and procedures that result in more fair and just outcomes.
Partners with departmental divisions and external organizations to implement programming to effectively support and advance equitable outcomes for communities.
Ensures cohesiveness in department plans with the City’s overall equity and racial justice initiatives and ensures department programs and services nurture narratives and practices that embrace belonging, mutuality, and unity.
Cultivates and maintains partnerships with community members, delegate agencies, Aldermen, and stakeholders to identify needs and create diverse solutions at the departmental level.
Identifies, conducts and analyzes data relevant to department racial and social equity gaps, utilizes assessment tools to identify opportunities for improvement, and provide department senior staff with analysis of data to facilitate decision making pertaining to internal and external DEI strategy.
Utilizes evidence based statistical data to develop responsive and meaningful solutions to improve department programs and services.
Tracks department action items and deliverables across multiple racial and social equity initiatives and working groups, maintains ongoing DEI metrics, and reports to department senior staff on quarterly metrics and results.
Coordinates outreach messaging and communication (e.g., social media, publications, etc.) on department programs, services, and projects.
Acts as a liaison with the Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice (OERJ) and the Office of Community Engagement.
Coordinates the department’s efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in equity practices across the department.
Develops public awareness strategies and outreach activities for the department’s equity programs and services.
Stays current on emerging issues and trends in racial and social equity, maintains knowledge of DEI-related issues, best practices and legislation.
Trains managers and front-line staff on racial and social equity policies, procedures, and resources.
Prepares and submits comprehensive reports, dashboards, and studies.
Represents the department on equity issues in a variety of forums.

Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, plus two (2) years of work experience in the administration of diversity, equity, racial, and/or social justice programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience provided the minimum degree requirement is met.
Disclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
Business and administration, human resources, and/or social sciences area of study.
Previous work experience advising personnel on equity issues.
Previous work experience assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating institutional DEI programs within a government, non-profit organization or cultural institution setting.
Previous work experience creating and organizing workshops around DEI training.
Previous DEI work experience in the private sector or government organizations.
Proficiency in performing data analysis and reporting.
Previous work experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Previous service in the Armed Forces of the U.S. on active duty continually for six months and have not been dishonorably discharged
