What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Sr Software Engineer to join our Customer Experience Technology team as a full stack software engineer. In this role, you’ll be focusing on building digital capabilities that can be applied across Principal products and experiences around the globe. You’ll work to deliver the best customer experience for our clients through innovative technology platforms while building out cloud capabilities with AWS. Our teams focus on delivering the best products for our customers which means you'll get to do work like build out AWS infrastructure using CDK, create excellent front end experiences using React and TypeScript, and collaborate with team members leveraging GitHub to build out some of Principal’s highest trafficked web experiences, e.g. Individual Customer Dashboard receiving 1.5M unique monthly visitors.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

Demonstrate design thinking and create solution architectures, own design and solution architecture for team's work

Interpret complex technical problems and translate them into clear, efficient, and engaging solutions

Clearly communicate technical concepts to business partners and cross-discipline IT team members; Innovate and experiment with different ideas and solutions

Provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions and trade-offs; Demonstrate independence working in more than one software development layer of the solution; Research, influence and propose new technologies

Partner with our business to understand their strategic goals and work to apply technical solutions that align while making a positive impact on the company's technical trajectory

Who You Are

Associate's or bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience

6+ years of engineering experience

Strong collaboration skills with ability to effectively communicate strategies and designs to all levels of the company, both technical and non-technical partners

Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills

Experience with mentorship/informal leadership

Must have the desire to learn new technology and continuously grow

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

AWS Serverless technologies (API Gateway, EventBridge, Lambda, DynamoDB)

Typescript, Javascript, React, Next.js, CI/CD, AWS CloudFront

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$95200 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
