Manager, Software Development Engineering
role sits on the Search Entry team in the Expedia Product & Technology division of Expedia Group. This team develops and optimizes the search form and other critical search entry points for our websites and mobile apps. We leverage cutting-edge technologies like machine learning, natural language processing and AI to bring a personalized experience to our customers. In this role, your expertise and passion for innovation and implementing industry-leading solutions will improve the experience of millions of travelers each year.In this role, you will:Lead and coach a team of 5-10 high-performing software engineers.Advocate for performance, quality and reliability and install best practices in your team in all parts of the dev lifecycle.Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.Provide ongoing, real-time feedback to engineers on your team to promote their growth.Communicate clearly to product managers, partners, and engineers to remove ambiguity from larger projects; Provide high level engineering estimates.Find creative and simple solutions to challenging problems, with a focus on getting things done and a test & learn culture.Work across organizational boundaries (brands, divisions) to collaborate with other technology teams to solve complex, integrated problems.Remain informed on technology trends. Examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and prioritize improving them.Experience and qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.5+ years software development experience in enterprise software and/or native mobile applications. Hands-on coding experience required.Proven experience in leadership and team building.Self-starter who is consistently looking to innovate and find ways to enhance our customer’s experience, with ability to own large features from end to end.Strong technical proficiency, capable of problem solving and applying critical thinking. Understanding of software design principles, algorithms and data structures.Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize decisions and tasks effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Excellent communication and organizational skills - able to translate between technical and business groups, bring forward a vision or opinion.Ability to lead teams of different experience levels and mentor and coach accordingly.Knowledge of backend services and front-end applications (web and/or native apps).Deep understanding of JVM-based technologies preferred (Kotlin or Java).Solid experience in cloud platform services and architecture (e.g. AWS).Experience with iOS/Android development toolkits is a plus (SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose).Experience with agile development methodologies and working in an agile environment.The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
