Education/Certification:
Illinois Professional Educator License with EL/Bilingual and General Administrative Endorsements (preferred) Fluent in English and another non-English language (Spanish) Knowledge and ability to relate to the diversity of the community with particular emphasis on working with the District's language minority populations Knowledge about the needs of English Learners and the challenges they face Expertise in second language acquisition Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English and Spanish Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable (Reports To Director of Bilingual Teaching and Learning) PROGRAMMING-RELATED TASKS (7-12)
Assist with closely monitoring the District's programs and initiatives that promote and support the education and achievement of English Learners. Assist with the supervision of the District's EL programming to ensure consistency of access and outcomes Assists with Building Master Schedule Assists teachers with Lesson Planning and Devising Schedules Coordinates ACCESS for ELL exam Administers the EL Screener exam for all English Learners at the HS Assists with the placement of new EL students at the HS Assists with inputting EL accommodations in the College Board Serves as the EL Liaison on the Testing Coordinating Team to ensure ELs are receiving the allotted accommodations Oversees the NGL sync for all ELL students Provides training for the Elevation Platform Provides multiple layers of support to onboarding VIT Teachers and current EL staff Provide Professional Development to staff based on the needs assessment at the secondary level. Monitors achievement of English Learners on standardized testing and other indicators of success Attends Response to Intervention (RtI) Team and Special Education meetings at the building level, as needed Works closely with the District's Special Education Department to meet the needs of English Learners with disabilities Monitors District programs for Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE), in cooperation with building administration Assists with the implementation of EL programming in targeted buildings Actively promotes awareness and respect for the needs and contributions of linguistically and culturally diverse students and families Shares expertise in working with students who receive ELL services with others Assists in planning and administering staff development activities Attend Weekly Grade Level Team Meetings as requested by the team Provided ongoing support for graduating seniors (post-secondary plans) SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION OF PERSONNEL AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Assist with the development of department policies and make recommendations regarding District policies and negotiated agreements Monitors staffing ratios and needs continuously and makes recommendations as needed Ensures that all staff is allocated and used effectively and efficiently. Builds relationships with all staff members to promote a team-oriented environment and maintain high standards of accountability OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a member of the District Leadership Team and participates in the strategic planning process Participates in professional growth opportunities (e.g., attends regional, state, and national professional conferences, reads professional publications, and/or enrolls in advanced courses) Performs all other duties necessary to the position and such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Bilingual Teaching and Learning Supervises: Staff members as assigned
