DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: If you enjoy problem solving, collaborating with other teams, problem solving, and you are relentless in getting things resolved, please consider this Lead Accountant opening. While this role will conduct GAP accountant work, this person will also be the troubleshooter to ensure our claims, revenue and billing process through to our general ledgers properly. This person will partner with our operations areas to understand how these process work and to resolve errors.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Provides guidance to general ledger accountants and recommends actions as it relates to specific transactions, reconciliations and analysis * Develops non-standard report or analyses and address problematic issues and activates related to general ledger accounts * Examine transactions to ensure accounting methods are consistent and compliant. Recommend corrective actions as necessary * Ensures all company deadlines are met as it relates to certain general ledger accounts * Actively participates in the completion of the monthly, quarterly & annual close processes * Actively supports all reporting (Management, Statutory, and GAAP) as it relates to certain general ledger accounts * Participates in providing responses to all questions and requests for information as it relates to * Provides guidance to general ledger accountants and recommends actions as it relates to specific transactions, reconciliations and analysis * Develops non-standard report or analyses and address problematic issues and activates related to general ledger accounts * Examine transactions to ensure accounting methods are consistent and compliant. Qualifications * BS/BA in Accounting with CPA (Preferred), Finance and/or Business Administration * Eight or more years of accounting experience for a health insurance or comparable industry (size and complexity) or comparable function * Leadership abilities and has experience with leading functional teams * Working knowledge of general & health insurance industry accounting practices & principles * Working knowledge of US GAAP and specific practices/procedures * Good written and oral communication skills * Working knowledge of supporting technologies (i.e. PeopleSoft) and large ERP systems * Working knowledge in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point) and working knowledge of other tools (i.e. MS Access)
