We are seeking a senior accountant whose primary responsibility is to assist with monthly accounting processes, including closing activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
What you'll do:
General Accounting - 45%
Complete monthly / quarterly financial close procedures in accordance with Company policies, closing timelines and GAAP; Closing activities include preparing standard journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and reportingReview balance sheet accounts and prepare adjusting entries as neededEnsure assigned reconciliations are prepared monthly and provided to the Assistant Controller for review timely in accordance with the Company account reconciliation policyResponsible for ensuring CoStar (lease accounting system) is updated timely when lease agreements are entered in to; In addition, this role will be responsible for preparing lease entries monthly in accordance with ASC842Partners with the business to track assigned month-end accruals ensuring expenses are recorded in the proper monthPrepares monthly depreciation expense entriesResponsible for assisting in updating the fixed asset subledger when new assets are acquired, as well as assisting in updating EMCOR Corporate Tax asset software; systems must balance monthlyAssists with overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure transactions are posted timely and accurately to the correct jobs and accounts; Prepare correcting entries as needed based on reviewsWorks with the Assistant Controller on preparing analyses of monthly expense trends, risks and opportunities. May assist with the elements in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly analytics on variancesProvide ad hoc reporting / documentation as requestedCash Management - 35%
Completes daily cash receipts and application as assigned; Ensures variances are communicated, researched and resolved timelyResponsible for monthly account reconciliation of all bank accountsTax Accounting - 15%
Prepares monthly account reconciliations for all local unions, payroll, and sales / use tax accounts; Ensures variances are communicated, researched and resolved timelyAssists the Assistant Controller with the preparation of assigned tax filings in accordance with Government deadlinesInternal Controls - 5%
Assists the Assistant Controller with the maintenance of assigned internal control documentation; Makes updates as needed to ensure our internal control environment is consistently upgraded as the business changesComplete periodic checks of controls to ensure they are functioning as intended. Implement remediation plans designed by the Assistant Controller as neededAssists the Assistant Controller in maintaining and updating the general ledger system, ensuring the integrity of our financial dataConduct monthly physical inventory counts and reconcile any discrepanciesWhat you'll need (minimum qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university requiredMust have a basic understanding of GAAP; public company reporting and accounting process knowledge a plusStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and general computer skillsLeadership skills and attention to detail a must; must be meticulous with final work productsAbility to work independently and handle changing priorities in a high-volume transactional environmentHighly motivated and dedicated to contributing to the growth and success of the companyStrong written and verbal communication skillsNice to have:
Viewpoint Vista experience a plusConstruction industry experience a plusMaster's degree or CPA highly preferredPrior work experience of general accounting or finance
