Job Duties

Come join our team at the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA)! In 2023, bipartisan legislation consolidated a dozen workforce development programs and data systems from various existing Commonwealth of Virginia agencies to create the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA), known as Virginia Works. On July 1, 2024, Virginia Works stood up as an independent agency dedicated to creating, sustaining, and retaining a highly skilled workforce, and committed to making sure Virginia Works for everyone.

Collects, analyzes, and classifies occupational employment and wage statistical (OEWS) data. Accesses automated system to identify assigned sample firms which must be contacted regarding outstanding salary survey responses, which are essential for providing adequate OEWS estimates for VA. Continually contacts those employers directly (via e-mail, telephone, fax or mail) to solicit data and communicate purpose for such; documents attempts and results of the exchange; continually updates information in system; and maintains electronic and hard copy files. Collects and reviews survey responses for quality and compliance; analyzes employers' occupations and wage data to determine reasonableness and assign appropriate codes in the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system; identifies and resolves issues; revises or explains atypical SOCs and wage rates; and verifies sample units have been reported correctly. Interacts effectively with various parties to explain the program, solicit participation in the survey process, and/or provides or obtains information.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge of survey design, sampling and data collection principles and practices; interpretation of statistical data and economic analysis; telephone etiquette; and general office operations.

Strong analytical, customer service, oral and written communication, and computer skills (including use of Microsoft Office Excel and automated data systems).

Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, code, and report data; identify, address and document discrepancies, trends and variances; respond to requests for information; key data into an automated system; update industry codes; interact effectively with various parties; interpret and apply standards; and work effectively independently and collaboratively.

Additional Considerations

Education, experience, and/or training in statistics, math, business or public administration, economics, or related field.

Experience working with labor and/or salary data and/or related surveys.Knowledge of occupational classifications systems (e.g., Standard Occupational Classification code)

Experience conducting quality assurance reviews, and/or working in a call center and/or governmental environment soliciting and providing information.
