You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development of advanced, general-purpose robots designed to operate in human environments and work with human tools. This position demands a high degree of ownership and responsibility, driving projects from conception through to completion, ensuring that Apptronik's robots perform precisely and reliably in real-world scenarios. You will be responsible for building controls infrastructure software and processes that enable high-performance real-time control, seamless integration of robot data and models, and effective fault detection, diagnostics, and recovery
Responsibilities:
Deliver production-grade real-time controls software infrastructureIntegrate low-level firmware data with high-level controls logicCharacterize and improve the quality of robot kinematics, estimation, and actuationPerform root-cause analysis on complex hardware-software-controls integration bugsDevelop API for controls and autonomy systems to interact with robot hardware and simulationDesign and develop fault detection, diagnostics, and recovery plans to enhance systen robustness and uptimeSpearhead the bringup of new products and pilot builds ensuring smooth deploymentMaintain comprehensive and accurate architecture and design documentationDeliver reliable software through code reviews, continuous integration, and automated testingRepresent and lead with Apptronik's core values: CHIPC - Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, Passion, CreativitySkills and Requirements:
Education: BS, MS, or PhD in relevant fields (Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, etc.)Experience: 8+ years (or 5+ with a graduate degree) of robotic hardware and software integrationTechnical Skills: Strong modern C++, OOP skills, multi-threading, and Linux application developmentDeep knowledge of robotics fundamentals (kinematics, dynamics, controls, estimation, and system identification)Proven experience with controls software integration, especially with hardware abstraction layers for sensors and actuatorsProficiency with robotics packages (ROS, URDF, MuJoCo, Eigen, etc.)Familiarity with software testing methodologies and version control (e.g., Git)Strong communication skills and familiarity with Agile processes (sprint planning, design/code reviews)Perks:
