Position Summary
The Packaging Technician II plays a vital role in the successful production of our beverages. They are expected to operate with integrity and a high level of focus in all positions on the production line to ensure we are sending the highest quality products possible to our customers.This position will be responsible for learning the mechanics of their designated line equipment in order to reduce down time related to equipment issues and changeovers. The Packaging Tech II will also be the backup for the Line Lead position.
An ideal applicant will be highly skilled, consistently punctual and enjoy working with a variety of skilled individuals who share similar values and goals.
Schedule: four 10-hour shifts, 4:00pm-2:30am (4x10s)General Duties/ResponsibilitiesAdhere to all company safety policies and procedures.Conduct safety inspections of packaging equipment and work areas.Report any safety hazards or incidents to the Packaging Supervisor immediately.Participate in safety training sessions and contribute to a culture of safety awareness.Learn proper settings, and perform adjustments, PM's and troubleshooting for all equipment on your line and record all required data relating to theseComplete routine maintenance and minor repairs during down times as well as working with maintenance to complete major repairsAssist in the setup, operation, breakdown, and cleaning of the bottling line on packing daysChangeover parts and fine tune assigned machines during package size change oversEnsure that product being handled at your particular station meets standards of quality (caps fastened, liquid level appropriate, labels level, boxes secure)Adjust packaging equipment as needed to best meet quality standards for all product being handled (legible date stamps, caps torque, appropriate fill heights, aesthetically pleasing labels, and secure cases)Document all machine adjustments when made.Manage fill settings with the goal of consistent fill heights and cycle time efficiencyObserve and monitor filling operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications.Responsible for making sure product is meeting quality and safety standardsResponsible for completing post-glass break filler inspections and documenting in the Glass Break Log.Inspect equipment for sanitation and foreign material hazards and report findings.Sample, inspect, and test finished products and packaging for hazards, defects and deviations from specifications.Participate in deep cleaning and/or other special projects regarding your line on an as needed basisMust be dedicated to increase your knowledge base and improve effectiveness in your role by participating in all repair work and training sessions on your line with the Maintenance team, equipment reps and other industry professionalsMust be able to run the line and be the line lead if the line lead is sick, on vacation or not able to lead the line for various reasonsMaintain a professional, positive and calm demeanor while problem solving under pressureResponsible for making sure product is meeting quality and safety standardsMaintain a positive working relationship working with line leads in assisting and developing a collaborative team environmentCommunicate with maintenance when extra expertise is neededPerform case flavor mixing as neededParticipate in training sessions that may include, but are not limited to safety protocols, operational procedures, skill development and compliance requirements.Food Safety and Quality ResponsibilitiesFollow GMP policy when in the production facility and encourage your team to do the same.Understand our SQF policies relating to pest control, visitors, allergen management, and cleaning and sanitation.Demonstrate awareness of Management's Commitment to SQF and work towards Food Safety and Quality and help the company meet this commitment.If there is a problem that involves food quality and safety, report to the Quality Assurance Manager so that the CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal of continuous improvement of food quality and safety.Required Skills/AbilitiesForklift and pallet jack experience preferred but not requiredKeen attention to detailHeightened awareness of safety precautions and hazards for self and othersAbility to work with a team to achieve production goalsPositive and team oriented attitudeExtended shifts and overtime may needed based on business needsFlexibility in work hours is necessary to meet operational demandsBasic computer skills required, will train on ERP and other company software when neededEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required1 year of mechanical background/packaging line experience preferredWork Environment/Physical Requirements30 minute unpaid Lunch break; Two 15 minute breaks PaidSpace can be crowded with manufacturing equipment.May encounter extremes in temperature.Must remain aware of forklifts and pallet jack trafficNoisy; some areas may be dusty. May encounter extreme swings in temperature.Requires standing, walking, pushing, pulling, walking on wet surfaces. and lifting everyday.Duties may include lifting and maneuvering heavy equipment and/or parts.
