A law firm seeks a highly skilled and motivated Mid-level Tax Associate to join its tax practice group in Portland, Oregon. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of practical experience in state and federal tax law, including income, excise, sales/use, and property taxes. This is an exciting opportunity to work with local, regional, national, and international clients on diverse tax issues, including corporate and transactional matters. Flexible hybrid work arrangements are available to ensure work-life balance.Duties:Advise clients on state and federal tax matters, including income, excise, sales/use, and property taxes.Provide counsel on general corporate and transactional tax matters for individuals, businesses, and non-profits.Collaborate with other legal teams to offer comprehensive legal services to clients.Draft and review legal documents such as tax opinions, memoranda, and compliance filings.Manage client relationships by delivering clear, actionable advice on complex tax issues.Stay current with tax law developments and provide strategic insights to clients.Represent clients in regulatory matters and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws.Requirements:2-5 years of experience in state and federal tax law, with a focus on income, excise, sales/use, and property taxes.Strong background in general corporate and transactional tax matters.LLM degree in Taxation, CPA certification, or prior accounting experience is preferred.Membership in the Oregon State Bar or eligibility for reciprocity.Licensure in Washington or California is a plus.Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Intrinsic motivation, attention to detail, and a problem-solving attitude.Education:Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.Certifications:Active membership in the Oregon State Bar (or eligibility to practice in Oregon).CPA certification or LLM in Taxation preferred.Skills:Strong understanding of state and federal tax laws, including income, excise, sales/use, and property taxes.Experience in corporate and transactional tax law.Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.Strong communication skills for advising clients and working with legal teams.Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
