Job Summary and QualificationsThe Director of Infection Prevention ensures high quality, patient-centered care by coordinating the hospital-wide Infection Prevention Program, which includes surveillance, analysis, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections, education of staff, and the development of health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet regulatory requirements. In collaboration with the Infection Prevention (IP) Committee, the Director of Infection Prevention makes decisions relative to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections and blood-borne pathogens. The Director of Infection Prevention develops and maintains policies and procedures that support successful quality/patient safety outcomes and ongoing improvement in the delivery of healthcare to patients, identification of areas of opportunity, and coordination and execution of regulatory compliance programs in accordance with federal, state and local agencies.

You will develop and implement policies and procedures for the hospital infection prevention program using evidence-based methods, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Review and updates policies annually.

You will perform process evaluation and qualitative/quantitative analysis for department-specific and organization-wide infection prevention and control improvement opportunities. Determine the needed systems/processes/behavioral changes necessary to support infection prevention activities.

You will promote an interdisciplinary approach for the identification, tracking, reporting, and resolution of infection control issues. Identify situations that may present an infectious hazard to patients, staff, or visitors. Collaborate with all disciplines and departments to develop and update area-specific policies and procedures pertinent to infection prevention principles.

You will support emergency management activities and EOC through participation on environmental rounds, bioterrorism and patient influx planning, and emergency response drills. Cooperate with local community health and emergency management organizations in activities pertaining to disease control.

You will document and notify designated medical and administrative staff members and appropriate Health Department authorities of all reportable communicable diseases.

You will ensure proper maintenance of Infection Prevention patient database(s) using methods compliant with HIPAA.

You will prepare timely, accurate, and comprehensive reports and documents pertaining to the infection control program. Present reports to appropriate internal and external authorities.

You will maintain current knowledge of and adherence to hospital, federal, state and local regulations, and OSHA and Joint Commission requirements pertaining to infection control. Maintain knowledge of and adherence to patient care standards, standards of practice, therapeutic and diagnostic measures, equipment, and procedures used in patient care as they relate to infection control.

You will serve as a resource on infection prevention and control issues for staff, committees, patients, students, and the local community.

You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, volunteers, visitors and other health care members. Build alliances within and among work units as needed to achieve unit performance objectives.

You will serve as liaison and interface with all regulatory agencies and the health care community concerning infection prevention issues, to assure hospital compliance with infection prevention regulations.

You will assume accountability for promoting consistent, positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.

You will maintain a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary.

You will support the development and implementation of strategies to elevate the patient experience.

You will foster a culture that inspires commitment to the vision/mission/values of the organization. Ensure employees are recognized, valued, and supported. Develop and implement strategies to elevate employee engagement.

You will supervise infection control staff in surveillance, prevention, and intervention of potential nosocomial infections.

You will prepare and present hospital-wide orientation programs for new staff members, annual educational programs and other departmental- or hospital-wide programs as applicable to infection prevention.

You will promote awareness among staff regarding safe work practices, standard precautions, and use of personal protective equipment.

You will participate in development and evaluation of professional practice by participating on unit and/or hospital committees, special projects and attendance at staff meetings and town halls.

You will conduct surveillance of all maintenance / renovation or new construction work to identify ongoing risks for patients, employees, and visitors to the facility.

You will facilitate the integration of principals of infection prevention and Infection Prevention Plan into the planning of day-to-day activities of the hospital and evaluates risk for infection at all campuses.

You will utilize knowledge of change theory to operationalize change within the organization.

You will attend continuing education programs to maintain or enhance skills and knowledge appropriate for the position.

What qualifications you will need:

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Related Field, required

Masters Degree in Health Related Field, preferred

5+ years experience in a clinical setting, required

2+ years experience in a leadership role, required

5+ years experience in Infection Control, required

Certification in Infection Control required
