Certifications: CPR, ACLS, Highly Recommended: BCLS Certificate, ACLS Certificate, PALS Certificate
Must-Have: Ability to read and write English at the 10th-grade level. Ability to perform math at the 9th-grade level. Certification as a Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Assistant preferred.
Job Description:
- Assist GI physicians during endoscopy procedures.- Perform various duties as a member of the health team in the treatment and care of patients and their families.- Assist with tasks to support the unit under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span.- Recognize data reflective of the patient's status and inform the Registered Nurse of observations.- Take and monitor vital signs when necessary.- Perform EKGs and assist with medical procedures as required.- Assist with the placement of pulse oximetry.- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and instruments.- Notify appropriate personnel regarding any malfunction in equipment.- Assist in inventory control for medical supplies.- Set up oxygen and suction.- Collect specimens and bring them to the lab when necessary.- Stock exam rooms including educational materials.- Retrieve endoscopy reports from the computer system as needed.- Provide instruction and information to patients.- Act rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiate CPR, and provide necessary items called for by the team.- Transport patients and equipment as needed.- Perform all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the RN within the framework of the New York State Nurse Practice Act and policy and procedures.
